No 360º camera deal breaker

Ugh very frustrated by this. Wanting to buy a G550, which would be primarily my wife's car, but the lack of the 360º camera is a deal breaker for her which takes the G550 off the table.
Would have to go for a G63 but that seem like such a waste of about $19,000 to get a camera (I know the G63 also has a better engine/faster but that's not something my wife is going to appreciate or really utilize).

I assume a retrofit is out of the question if the bull bar is removed?

MY19 G550
Coming from a MY16 S550 w/ 360 cam to a MY19 G550, the lack of a 360 cam is a disappointment but not the end of the world. The G is very maneuverable and still has a narrow body even though it’s wider than its predecessor. Plus, the revised rear view camera is fantastic and even more useful than on the S with its heightened resolution. 👍

I was watching a video concerning the G550. The front camera is installed in all G550s but they actually turn off the camera at some point before delivery.

Makes me think if you remove the bull bar there should be an aftermarket way to get the camera working again.

The aftermarket is certainly a possibility. I had a reputable shop put in a back up and front camera on a previous Porsche and it was terrific. There was no way to tell it was aftermarket. Now 360* ability may be another story. But it is worth some investigation.

My '17 GLC has the 360 degree view and I think it is worth what it cost and more. I concur that the MB back-up camera gives a superior result to those
I have experienced in rental cars, but my experience doesn't include Audi's.

The G550 does has 360 degrees of parking sensor coverage which is displayed with yellow, orange, and red bars surrounding a gods eye view of the G on the central display. There are also the obligatory chimes which are directional. I back into my parking spot usually within four inches of the curb without any issues. Sure a picture would be prettier, not at all necessary.

It still has parking sensors if I'm not mistaken? You just can see what you are about to hit. But the sensors are generally fine. I do like the 360 for curb proximity.

I don't get it. You are sitting on top of a box with great visibility and you can actually see where the front end is.
Plus you will have the parking sensors and the other cameras.
Finally, cameras aren't the be all and end all. Can't tell you how many cars with surround cameras have had damaged bumpers from people ignoring the camera and hitting something.

Just get the G 550 and enjoy it!
