Nail Biting - Help Me Pick My G63 Color

Excited about my October delivery G63, but going through final configuration and I am paralyzed on color choice. What I know: (no offense to others) I don't want another black, silver, white, or grey G wagon like all the others I see.

My finalists:

Desert Sand
Sea Blue Metallic
Olive Metallic
Yellow Olive Matte

I will be doing the black Night Package, silver calipers, and plain black interior with whichever color I choose. Its so hard not being able to see these in person. Id love any thoughts and suggestions! I am going for more of an offload/vintage vibe... vs. the baller urban look.

We went with black, but we drive it to work and wanted to try and keep us subtle, if that's possible with a G63. I honestly would have went with desert sand or olive metallic if not. When we placed the order, we weren't able to see any samples but I did see an olive one the other day and it looks amazing. I haven't seen a desert sand in person, but I love that color.

Id go for the Olive. All the others are really cool and bold - but i think the G looks best in the Olive of ALL colors (personally). Second is a matte. Any matte.

I have Olive on order and think G looks amazing in that color. My second choice would be platinum magno. Color is kinda personal so if you like Desert Sand go for it. For me that would be just about my last color choice.

I still, for the life of me, cannot figure out why MB will not provide samples in some form of paints, trims and leathers........like almost every other lux car maker does. "Here, feel THIS leather as opposed to the standard" or "As you can see the CF trim REALLY pops" or anything to let us see something we want to configure before we fawking get it!

2012 G550 - Capri Blue Metallic
You've got 2 metallics (shiny), Desert Sand (somewhat shiny still) and a matte finishes to choose from... start from there. Shiny or matte? I like matte, since most vehicles you see are shiny paint, so it's more unusual. Yellow Olive Magno looks pretty sweet, and there's not many yellow/green vehicles out there. It's an understated color though, so with your night package it will soak up the light rays. The Desert Sand is too overstated, and Olive seem a little too understated/normal.

For more 'pop' and color the Sea Blue Metallic looks good, and probably would go best with the silver calipers.

Olive Metallic
Sea Blue Metallic
Yellow Olive Matte
Desert Sand

id go for olive metallic or sea blue. Matt colors look great in pics but not great in person. May be other choice is yellow olive if it’s in matte color. Desert sand is love it and hate it color and I’m in the second camp, I don’t want to tell you why

it also depends how long you’d keep it.. colors like silver, black are evergreen color and would never look old but other nifty colors would after few years

Having seen Desert Sand in person, it would be pretty close to my last choice. It's a color that would probably work if it were in a Matte finish, but it's (IMHO) pretty gross in the glossy finish. I haven't seen all of the color choices listed in person (Sea Blue might be stunning in person, but I'm iffy about it on the MB configurator pages), but would probably rank them as follows:

Olive Metallic
Yellow Olive Matte
Sea Blue Metallic

Desert Sand (I wouldn't want this color even if they offered me a 50% discount on the vehicle)

Very cool to hear that.........I'm only basing my thoughts on seeing the thing on the website, but I'm surprised to hear you don't like it that much, and I get what you're saying too........wish I could see it in person.....not that I'm a buyer lol
I've seen that color similar on other vehicles and thought it looked good......a jeep I think, one of those 4 door abominations haha

If Mercedes were going with the color Jeep uses, which to me looks more like what I'd think of as a military tan, it would be awesome. When I first heard they were offering the color, it was something I thought I'd seriously consider for my next G. Then I saw it in person and completely ruled it out as an option. Quite a few of the colors look very different in person versus seeing them on MB's configurator on a calibrated computer monitor or iPad. It makes it really difficult to choose something other than blacks and grays unless you can see it in person. Nobody wants to order a ~$150K vehicle and then find they hate the color when it arrives.

My local dealer has smallish (perhaps 10" long) car shaped samples of many of the colors and samples of many of the leathers, but they don't have samples of all colors.

And then there were 3 - I’m eliminating Desert Sand.
Down to

Sea Blue
Olive
Olive Yellow Matte

I must say that Olive feels safest. It seems they used it at Detroit launch and ever video I see its very interesting depending on light. But the Olive Yellow Matte looks like it could come right off the battlefield, so appropriate for this suv! The blue is a pop/snap pretty angle. Maybe a little more Hollywood.

Yeah, the Olive Matte looks really good IMHO. I'm still a bit unsure about Sea Blue, but the glossy Olive also looks pretty good.

I don't know which green it was, but I was behind a green previous gen G63 on Friday that was a pretty nice looking color. Not sure why it is rotated - it looks correct on my PC...

Desert Sand or Olive Metallic. Last color of car i'd choose is black but it's such an individual choice.

My first G550 was Iridium Silver, my second G550 was Midnight Blue, and my current G63 is Obsidian Black. I liked all 3 colors quite a bit, but get far more comments (all positive) from people about the G63 than I did with the other 2 colors. That's not the reason I selected black (I picked it because I like it), but certainly suggests that a lot of people think the G looks good in black. The bottom line though is to pick a color that YOU like, especially if you plan to keep the vehicle for a while.

No, mine is a 2017 G63... But even if it were a 2019, most people I've run into who make the "nice G-wagon" comment have absolutely no clue and don't really care what year G it is and won't notice the relatively subtle exterior differences from the all new 2019+ model. They just see that it's a G-wagon. Those of us who are more familiar with the differences will spot a 2019+ vs an older version pretty easily.

Yellow Olive Matte without question. You won't see another in the valet lot.

After all my agonizing, I learned that from my dealer yesterday when I went to lock in olive yellow magno :-(

So I ended up ordering Olive Metallic. Decision was made for me

Does that just mean it's a longer wait or that the color can't be ordered at all? I'm just going to sit things out and live with my 2017 G63 until things settle down a bit more on the new model.
