G63 vets looking for opinions on a 2014 G63. Bad signs or normal wear?

Checked out a 14 tonight. Has over 60k miles. Some things that stood out I took pics of and would like to share with you all to get some advice. Is this normal for a G63 or are these warning signs to walk away?

Had stone chips on front side (facing front) of rear fender flares, chips on bumper of course...previous owner didn’t care to PPF. Interior looked fantastic for the mileage. On with the pics....(sorry if they are huge...doing this from phone)

Rust from a couple stone chips

Rust on door hinge

Rust looks like starting to form inside of door above door hinge

Weird bubble/mounds pushed up on side skirts...looked underneath and didn’t see any sign of the underside being pushed up. Does water damagecause this?

Other side skirt bubble

Was some tranny fluid on the left bolt (the one left of the serial number) by the drain plug. Not sure if they did service when it was traded in but kinda off I was able to touch the bolt (not the plug) and get oil on my finger.

So here is where I got my finger under the windshield seal to look for rust and water poured out. Normal? No wonder this is where it’s been stated is a rust concern...does water not drain from here? How does it get in there?

More of the same water coming out

Look in the crease. Looks like paint may be cracking? Is this normal? Is this something to worry about rusting out? Most of the creases around the rear corners had this.

Looks like some possible rust under the corner of the hood/fender?

A gaggle of MB's
Frankly - it's a 2014 G63 - did I miss the service records - or did I miss that this is not MB Certified - it's certainly from a Winter Salt Area - is there a reason you need to talk about minor cosmetics when you have more major decisions to make ?

Keep shopping my friend. There are better examples out there. The reason the water is running out of the windshield seal is because the windshield has been replaced and wasn't installed properly. Looks like she's been ridden hard and put away wet. Good luck with your search.

There are just too many 2014-2018 Gs out there in either much better, or even pristine condition to even consider this one. Life is short-ish...why deal with something that looks like it can, or will cause a lot of expensive headaches!!?

what does 2014 have to do with it? 4-5 years and these are now rust buckets? All service was actually done at a MB dealer and performed regularly...one of the main reasons I wanted to go look at it. Factory warranty has been expired and it’s not a CPO. I’m from the tri-State area so yes there is snow and ice (salt) which is why I am even looking at another SUV (to replace my Range Rover). This example is also from the tri-State area. What other major decisions? The decision whether to proceed with the vehicle is do to the minor to major issues posted here.

I thought that too...but I went to a MB dealer after and happened to find a 2017 on the lot and same thing...lifted the edge of the windshield seal and some water ran down. Rained the night before but didn’t know if this was normal

Thanks for the reply. I agree there are likely better ones out there. I am dipping my toe in this area so I really wanted to see if these types of issues are standard/normal for the G and just a “we learned to live with it” type of thing or these are red flags.

Why take risks with all those signs.
I would pass on this one and look for a better sample.

So for all those that replied...these things pictured are definitely not normal? And not typical wear for the G63

Yea the guy texted me in the morning asking if I wanted to stop by and he’ll throw it on the lift so I can check the underside. I let him know I’m going to keep looking.

One other thing. It was my first time driving a G63. Does the motor have a distinguishable thumping delivery. For example when I got on it, I could feel a sort of thumping from the cylinders. It wasn’t a smooth feeling so to speak. Kind of was expecting a bit more snap your head back type of accelerationto be honest too. This thumping feeling typical of this engine or possible misfiring? There wasn’t any CEL

Is rust something to be concerned about? Mine is 100% garage kept. Preventative measures?

Curious as well. Garage kept is probably worse in winter with salt and the snow ice melting and the salt water getting in the nooks and crannies each day. At least that's what I would assume.

I have actually owned 5 of them since 2009 and all of them trapped water under the windshield seal. I have learned to lift the seal to drain it after rain or car washes

Interesting, I will take a look at mine and report back. Although I don't really drive it that much it has seen its fair share of rain.

I was 2 for 2 on this...so I figured it was common too. Understandable now that the windshield frame on these tend to rust out. Something as simple as this they can't get right. If it wasn't for the rust and the jacked side skirts and the cracked paint in the joints I would consider picking this one up. Welll...then there is the tranny fluid. Haha maybe not

Well I checked my seal surrounding the front windshield and it was bone dry. I only have 4500 miles on it and keep it in the garage full time so still pretty new, but I will certainly keep an eye on this going forward.

2018 ok...so still older body style. Check after it rains next time. After a storm and the car dries off...try lifting back the edge of the seal on the bottom on windshield.

I checked a 17 or could have been 18 G63 on the lot at local dealer and water did run out.

My windshield seal is really tight, can barely lift any portion of it. I do however, think that these seals can warp over time, particularly if exposed to sunlight and temperature variances. Maintaining and monitoring will be wise.

The seal is tight but it can be lifted at the edges. If you lift the bottom corners I assure you after rain or wash there will be water there! That's why all these cars rust in that area. They also rust above the rear door and under the side door moldings and at the bottom edges of the side windows starting with the window guides. The only variable in the amount of rust is the elements and amount of road salt exposure.

I'll certainly keep an eye on it. We had decent rain yesterday and it looked pretty dry on both the sides and under the windshield. Was able to lift just enough. Fortunately we don't have that much salt in the winter but I usually will have it washed pretty soon after the salt get on it.
