Is a G53 a possibility???
With the E53 out and the introduction of the straight 6 cylinder to the US market, do you think they would ever make a G53? The price point would likely come down to ~$100k and performance would be roughly equal to the older V8 units. This would open up the G Wagon market to a whole new demographic. I know many have speculated about the diesel option with little chance of making it to the US. Thoughts?

Interesting concept. I hope not. I like the exclusivity of the G. A 53 at 100K would never happen. It would price around 120-130 loaded. It wouldn't be a 30k spread with the 550, more like 10-15k. All we need is a watered down AMG on a G wagen. No thanks.

Shouldn't happen. Will ruin the exclusivity of the G. But sometimes, as Economices suggests, its not up to the manufacturer. Market and competition can force Mercedes to introduce this if they have to compete in that space.

MBUSA has a dealer focus group for future product known as "Dealer Dialogue" A couple of months ago, they did pose the question about a 6 Cylinder G-Class offering.
Based on the series of questions, it seems more likely that there are considering a G450 with the 3.0L I6 and the 48 Volt Hybrid system.

One of the reasons I got rid of my Range Rover Supercharged, is because there were too many affordable look-alike Range Rovers around town. I would hate to see that happen to the G.

Soon: 2020 G63 Currently: 2016 GLE63 SUV + 97 F250HD, Before: 2013 G550, Range Rover Sport, 1984 CJ7
AMG = 63 . 63=AMG . Or 65 :-)
All else is just fairy tale wanna be AMGs. Same as the M line splashed all over the non-M cars . Or the S Line pack for Audi.
However brands will keep doing this because people are buying them like hotcakes. Cant get enough.
But when the glc43 pulls up next to my gle63, both drivers know what's up :-)

The G is a halo product, watering it down in the US market makes no sense.
Second, the fact that it is a limited production model, so why waste precious units on a model that you can't make the maximum profit on? Not just for the dealers but for MB USA itself.

I think it might be possible in the next 2-3 years.
Maybe something like a 'G450' to replace the G550 (think emissions and other such regulations.)
There are also rumors of a hybrid v8 G73 that comes in on top (to replace the gone G65).

An all wheel hybrid could be super powerful and advanced with discrete power to all wheels. Terrible gas milage on these things; and a big battery in a hybrid G would be interesting for sure.

Also, as well as the G is selling, I certainly can see a market for a 65 replacement.
