Blacked out Running Boards

Another option is plasti-dip which will give a more matte finish but will also hold up and can be removed if desired, unfortunately nothing besides powder coating or plastidip will hold well on the chrome / stainless finish.

Joz - i never found plastidip to work too well. It would come free under pressure from my boots getting in the truck. How'd you apply it so it sticks better (outside the normal?)

I have found plastidip not to hold up especially well over time even on low contact areas. When I sold my GLS (mentioned above) after 3 years, the only areas needing addressing/reapplying were the badges on the wings which I had plasti dipped in satin black. Everything else was wrapped and held up 100%

If you are going to step on them plasti dip will not last. I used truck bed coating in a spray can from home depot. 2 years and no problems. powder coating is the best option though. My process, use some fine sand paper 1st then wipe down with alcohol. spray 3 coats of Rust-Oleum 248914 Auto Truck Bed Coating, Aerosol. I used 2 can. Sorry don't have pictures right now. I'll try to upload 1 tomorrow.

Currently in vegas. I'll send you more pic when I get back. 2" lift with springs. Custom offset 20" wheels with 33x12.5 nitto ridge Grapplers. I used same truck bed paint for exhaust tips.

I had mine powder coated gloss black 3 months ago along with my wheels. They look amazing but I will say they do mark up fairly easily. I try to be careful stepping on them or avoid using them entirely. They do look amazing and well worth it.

I thought about this as well, however to me its a catch 22. I like to use the boards to minimize longterm wear on the Designo seats. At the same time however, black board would look cool, just not sure pcoat would hold up over time.

does the running boards come off to paint rthem with the spray or do you spray them on the car ? I would be afraid to spray them on the car because of factory matte paint I have.
Vinyl will most likely not hold up either

Do the rubber pieces on the side running boards need to come off to powdercoat them? How hard are they to remove and reinstall?
