Thank God for factory warranty

After 6 days at the dealership, I picked up my 2018 G63 (about 8000 miles currently, bought new June 2018). The Service Advisor said this repair would have been WELL over $3000.00 :-O Modern cars, especially AMG models are not meant to keep out of warranty!!! Yikes!

On the "upside" of this, it seems when my transmission was removed and re-installed....perhaps I got the newest and "best" tranny software updates. I have never felt my G transmission so smooth and silky. WOW!!

Wow, that's a serious service call. Anytime you need to detach and reattach the transmission, that's serious work. Glad it worked out and the G is running smooth. Enjoy!

Good looking G63. Yours is the second one I know of that had this issue. The other one only had 3,000 miles. I bought my 2018 new in April of last year and don’t drive it often. Currently sitting at 1,800 miles and on Thursday I’m taking the G in for the 1,800 mile rear diff service included with the AMG model.

do you take yours off road or any use it as it’s intended? I was planning on keeping mine for a long time, and I’m getting concerned. I thought these were bulletproof, especially, being the last year. Thankfully, I bought the extended warranty, I think it’s 7 or 8 years.

Feedback would be appreciated. Here’s mine

G63
Are the G63's that much more to repair over the G550? I know AMG service costs are a lot higher but is pretty much everything just more?

Everything AMG is more. Some items can be competitive but overall AMG's are not cheap to maintain. Regular service isn't that much IMO, but once you start getting into brakes and rotors it gets up there.

^^ but pads and rotors are generally an easy fix. Never take me over an hour (front or back) on any car I've had. I Just pay for parts

I'm all thumbs, if I undertook that task it would end getting towed to the shop to finish what I started.

Hi Todd(turbos)!

We do not take either of our 2018 G63s off road. We live in Calabasas (Los Angeles), and while we have a TON of nature (trails, hiking, open spaces), it is primarily for people.

I told our Service Advisor that I am really shocked that that my G, which is less than a year old and has only about 8000 miles needed such a repair.
But good news, this is our 5th or 6th G63 and this is the first time we have had such a problem. Fingers crossed!!

And agree with places...regular/light maintenance is not much more on AMG models, compared to non-AMG models, but everything else is generally much more. AMG labor always seem much higher too, in terms of time they say is needed!

lol'd. Yea I like to work on my own vehicles. I know no one is going to be as careful or through as I am. I'll take it to dealer for things over my head or things needing hooked up to computer to fix

Thanks for the response. Good to hear you’ve had many other G63 without any issues. I’m considering purchasing a new G63, but waiting for 2020 or possible 2021, so they have a chance to work out all the bugs.
