AMG G63 "Noisy Start-Up" Instructions

Can someone with a g63 try this?

Suppose if you'd like to scare your neighbors, or impress a friend, this will work well: "Noisy Start-up":
  1. Put car into Sport+ Mode
  2. Hold Upshift Paddle
  3. Press Start
See it here: at the 7:35 min:

I dont have the G to try it but Schmeee said so....

I actually tried this the other day and didn't notice anything. The screen had some notice saying function not available but wasn't clear if it was referring to that or not. Will try again. These shmee g63 videos are great but man is he sometimes hard to watch. I do wish he or someone would give a proper timed / hard run on the ring though.

Tried this again. You have to hit the start button first, without the break depressed so you can change the car into sport+ mode. Once you do that, you can hold the upshift, and hit start engine button. Someone else can try this but other than revving to 2k rpm and holding it there for about half a second it does nothing really. No different then just starting it up with S+ and no upshift. He does say, "when its warm" and my starts were cold. Suppose I'll try again at some point.

It's called Emotion Start and as far as I know all new and facelifted AMGs have it. It's how I start my 2019 C63S most of the time. You don't have to be in S+, and you can hold either shift paddle. It opens the exhaust and briefly increases the idle speed. Works on cold and warm starts. Here's how the feature is described for the C63/S. I think the effect is more noticeable if you actually don't put it in S+ first. It should start up noticeably louder compared to a normal start in C, but the exhaust closes afterwards, so I usually immediately hit the exhaust button as it revs the engine to keep it open.

Update - I don’t think any G63s have this - it’s not mentioned in the AMG Supplement manual and mine is a MY20.

ohhh interesting - is that with putting the car in S+ first? I think emotion start is technically supposed to be available without turning the ignition to position 2 (it's supposed to open valves even in Default - comfort). Even with S+, my RPMs only go to 1.5, not 2 like other AMGs do with Emotion Start.

put in sports+ mode by pressing ignition button but without foot on the brake pedal. Now put foot on the brake pedal, Pull in and hold the right pedal shifter on the steering wheel while pressing the ignition button. It works every time for me.

That doesn't sound like emotion start. Emotion start doesn't require to put it in Sports+ first. Doing that always made the start up more eventful with the exhaust valves open. The point of emotion start is that you can do it from any mode and w/o having to turn on ignition first. Just get in the car, hold one of the shift paddles and then start the engine. The exhaust valves will open temporarily and the the revs will briefly spike up to about 3000 rpm. After that the valves will close again, unless the car is in a mode where the exhaust valves stay open. With my C63S I always use emotion start and then as the engine revs blip, I press the exhaust button to keep the valves open.

I haven’t tried it without sports+ yet. Will give it a shot

Can't wait to get my G!

But I loved the cold starts with my E63 and exhaust mods... My neighbors, not so much.

Slightly off topic but under what conditions are the valves open? I have the G63 mufflers on my G550 so I do not have Sport+, just Sport mode.
