Time to buy...but what about all the extras?
Ok so the good news is my new best friend will be here in the next 24-48 hours. Along with the pick up visit comes the “do you want the extended warranty, the pre-paid maintenance, the clear coat, wheels and tires protection.
What do y’all recommend? What’s good and what’s a rip off? I have a feeling this will be a fun topic.

The only thing that would be worthwhile for me is the extended warranty. It is much cheaper to purchase this now than later on 3-4 years when the factory warranty is ending and the price skyrockets.
Everything else is a waste. Prepaid maint is always a scam, I got my own guys for that. Same with the tire and rim, I go through different sets/styles of wheels, tire plug, etc. Not sure what glass coverage is but my insurance covers glass with no deductible and glass claim does not raise your rates.

Tire and rim was $2200 so I said no; that will buy a lot of tires and I'm not going to break an 18" rim.
Windshield I think was $1200 and I said yes; too many tales of broken windows, and if it does happen I want MB to fix it not Safelight
Prepaid maintenance I said yes; they claim its a 30% discount and I will always use the dealer. Based on time-value-of money, I suspect it's a wash; 30% doesn't seem like enough
Extended warranty; I said no. Any major engine/drivetrain issues will surface in first three years, most likely.
I got the 'Ceramic' clear coat; unfortunately my G will be outside a lot.

Insurance always uses OEM glass for these type of cars.
$1200 is a big waste.
The history of these high performance cars the issues mostly arise after the warranty ends out. Peace of mind is totally worth the extra couple $$

Seems like the prevailing opinion is to say no to everything, though maybe consider the extended warranty? I only drive about 7500 miles per year max so not worried at all about beating the warranty before 4 years are up.

Check with your insurer on the glass. I know when I got a crack on the windshield on my X6M my insurer insisted on processing a glass claim over $1000 as "comprehensive, no fault". That's certainly had an impact on my insurance for the last four years, even having changed insurers. The windshields on these things are *expensive* and most "Sure, we'll fix the glass on your car for free" small prints really only apply to your typical Ford Taurus type windshield unfortunately, and not a new $4k one. Given that some people have had 2 windshields already - if this is available for $1200 I'm buying it.
Warranty is only worth it if you're going to be keeping the car outside of factory warranty.
Paint protection, IMHO, is a ripoff, as is the one where they coat the leather with some weird goo to "protect it" (seemingly non-optional on any off-the-lot Range Rovers near me).
Wheel and tire.... you have to ask yourself how many giant potholes you're going to be blasting through at speed, and how often you've ruined a rim so far. I'm willing to bet self-insurance there is cheaper

Yup. In one of the windshield threads someone dropped all that data in....I've been debating it since then. 1200 vs 3400 for your first broken one. And I agree anyone who's counting on their insurance to pick up the tab is going to have a rough time when when the premiums go up...and thats best case.

Ext Warranty, wait till you get near the end of your new car warranty then look here, there are a couple dealers who will give you a good deal on the ext warranty...

Get it ceramic coated from an Indy shop after delivery, which is what I had done to my Porsche. I used to think the stuff was just another snake oil scam but it really works well and my OptiCoat guy does paint correction first. I am looking to order a G550 now and I will get it done but probably not PPF since it sits so high, but possibly just the front end.
Do 3rd parties offer extended warranties for these? Fidelity sells a lot of Porsche warrantys and they have a great track record of paying dealers what they want, and the policy cost is not bad. If so, wait until your factory warranty is almost expired.
