Cracked Driver Window

Anyone else experience this? Fine this morning, G parked all day, then boom crack from top to bottom. How much to fix? Easy fix? 2020 G550 brand new.

I havent seen posted anywhere else (I probably read everything on the new G on every forum and video etc).
I do know that there is a decent amount of wiggle on the G windows which is why I think that little piece of plastic exists on the frame to retain the glass in place at the highest level. If you crack the window a 1/2" you can really see it wiggle when you are driving and wind is hitting it, or bumps. So, not surprised but this but you do see to be the first. Good luck and let us know what you find, experience, cost etc?

Did it crack while you were watching it without anything hitting it or was it cracked when you came back out to your G (a rock from a lawnmower/break-in attempt/angry Tesla owner could have broken it while you were away)?

I choose to blame angry Tesla owner lol. I didn’t see it crack or hear any debris contact. I’ll keep y’all posted. Just talked to the dealer - they had to order it. $357 for the window and $735 for labor. If it’s a defect they will replace for free.

lol... we will all be there someday.

I can’t see any single point of impact. I’m thinking a defect that started at one of the upper or lower edges of the window.

Without a clear point of impact, I can’t see how the dealership can claim this wasn’t a defect in materials.

What is up with the glass on these cars? The rate that this glass is "autonomously breaking" must indicate some form of manufacturing defect that's fairly broad.

I’ve just been speaking to my OH regarding this and advised that if there’s a possibility that you could end up with a bill for this window he suggests:

You could ask the dealer to keep hold and show you the window post removal; he believes (body shop owner for 34 years) it could be a stress fracture from the window regulator... he says you should be able to see where the window was held by the regulator as long as it’s not cleaned up etc.

735 for labor, I'd tell that dealer to get ****ed. Thats crazy.

Is there an option other than OEM glass for this? I kinda hate the idea of a non-Merc repair shop opening up my door panel to replace with non-OEM glass. Especially on a truck less than 50 days old. Anyone uses Safelite or other auto glass repair shops?

I'd assume that, if you stand any chance of this being a warranty claim, you'd have to have it done by MB?

Being a double glass. are both inside and outside affected in exactly the same crack or it's only one? ...which one?

If both sides of a laminated glass are broken, then the damage had to originate from an edge. Most likely the top edge that is exposed. There are trade offs to tempered side glass. Laminated glass provides limited sound insulation, and its remains intact when it breaks. But, the laminated glass is not as strong as tempered glass.
