Hello. I'm new to this forum, and I like it already! I'm impressed (and grateful) at how willing people are to share their knowledge and insights with others...especially new members :-J Thank you, Bob Z.

I have an early April allocation for a 2020 G 63 at MSRP + $15K (it was this, or a long wait). This will be my first G wagon, so I'm pretty excited!

I have been using the search feature quite a bit, and it works very well. I couldn't find answers to a couple of questions.

I spoke to a Mercedes dealer in Southern California a few weeks ago, and he casually mentioned that the G 550 (and I presume the G 63) has a built-in roll bar. It went in one ear and out the other at that time, but now I'm curious if that's true?

One more thing. How do you pronounce “Geländewagen”?

Thank you

hey welcome to the community. Recall seeing a pm from you a few wks ago, but when I went to reply, I couldn’t find the msg. Anyways, believe you were asking about the color of my grey G63. It’s Selenite Grey with night package and black bar. Hope that helps.

Same here, and here are some pics of a G550 in Selenite Gray with Black wheels, which is identical to the exterior of mine: https://www.tacticalfleet.com/2020-m...50-c-12886.htm

Your G looks great. It's surprisingly hard to choose a color (first world problems). I finally settled on Black Night Magno. I understand magno paint takes extra effort to protect and maintain. I've already started talking to PPF and ceramic coating guys

I saw a 2020 G 63 Black Night Magno (looked like the picture below) driving down Pacific Coast Highway last week, and I haven't stopped thinking about it.

welcome!!! :-)

I recently discovered this forum and I love it .

From what I’ve read on here $15k above doesn’t seem too bad if you are getting your G so soon , if you can afford it - all is good.

I’m not sure about a ‘built in roll cage’ , but the G is ‘stronger than time’ :-D

I don’t have a build date as yet but I’ve been told May delivery. I’m in the UK and we’ve chosen a diesel G.

For some reason, everyone here assumes that its "harder to maintain a magno paint", but to those that have actually owned one:
1. EASIEST Paint to clean - no swirls and streaks when wiping
2. You can actually do rinseless wash on it, and not damage the paint with swirls
3. The paint itself is harder than traditional clear coat
4. Hides dust really well - so the car always looks cleaner than it is
5. Ceramic Coating is HIGHLY recommended - makes the car look more satin than matte - which i personally prefer, and also makes the car EVEN easier to clean.

The real challenge with Magno Paint, is with repairs to scratches/body damages. Body shops struggle in getting a close match to the original because of the sheen differences in satin paint. I did a C63 Black Series fender conversion on my Magno Platinum car, and did a tonne of research to learn:
1. The color is not the challenge to match, but mainly the matte shine. Its literally a constant trial and error, as there is no accurate by the book calculation. IE too much gloss and the car becomes gloss paint, too much matte and it won't reflect like the original magno paint does.
2. Best recommendation would still be to wrap your magno paint in xpel stealth. Some go crazy and do the entire car. However at that point in time, the cost of Magno from MB + The Cost of Xpel stealth becomes more than buying a standard finish car, and wrapping it in full xpel stealth.

Here is a pic of my previous C63AMG 507 in Platinum Magno. - We just ordered our G63 in Monza Gray Magno.
Also a pic to show that Xpel Stealth can make any gloss car "Magno Finished" - our GLE63 which was originally Obsidian Black Pearl

You left off the biggest negative of Magno finish:
You're driving around in a car that looks like they forgot to paint

glad that it’s only your opinion. I’ve owned so many magno cars. Best advice is written above.

Newbie w a 2020 G550
Hi guys. Your rides are all sweet! Can anyone help me with wheel selection?

im having a hard time deciding if I want to keep the polished aluminum. I like the very clean look of the white and silver, and I sometimes think black rims on white G’s make them look like jeeps. Haha but wanted to see what the popular opinion here is.

I personally like the PA or the two tone black w machined face like the ones that come on the night package. But please share your opinions. Here’s a photo to help. Mine will arrive looking like the top one. TIA!

I am getting the Black ones, as in the center pic, albeit I am getting Selenite Gray, with the Night Package and am working on replacement parts for all the Chrome that remains.
