Squeaking Front End When Engine Hot

Hi all

When the engine in my 16 G63 gets to temp and has been driven a short while a squeaking noise happens from the front end when going over rough roads, pot holes etc.

I saw a video on YouTube where a guy pinpointed a very similar noise inside the cabin to be the bonnet bump stops rubbing the front panel, he taped them and the noise went away. I fitted some thin foam pads to mine this past weekend and it didnt fix it.

Noise sounds like its in the dash but is a squeak rather than a rattle and the noise in the video is so like it I assumed thats the cause, anyone else have this and know the fix?

Thanks

Carl

I had this problem on my 2013. My dealer replaced the foam pads that the hood bump stops make contact with and extended the bump stops so that the hood doesn't have as much room to move when its closed. I don't have the car anymore so I can't look to see how the stops extend, but I believe there is a bolt at the base of them that you have to loosen then the bump stops act as a screw to extend or shorten. Hope this helps.

It does, thank you

Was going to try that next, the foam I put on is only 2mm thick, there wasnt any pads on there but I could see an impression like something was there before perhaps. I guess the 2mm pads aren't thick enough or maybe they’re too soft?

Thanks again

Ive been dealing with this since I bought my G63. Initially I thought it was my suspension then I saw the YouTube video of the guy using the tape. The sound goes away when I use the tape but after about a week or 2 , it chews through the tape and the sound comes back. Its so fraustrating

It curled the rubber pads up after a few days so I wound out the bump stops, the bonnet feels solid when closed no flexing up and down etc but if anything the noise is louder, maybe need softer stops, theyre really hard almost plastic like rather than soft rubber

I use the furry side of velcro tape in that same spot and not only does the squeek go away, but it also holds up way better than the other 10 things I tried!!!!

I think its just the velcro brand that comes in a roll where its just adhesive on the mount side....I didn't use the other side on the rubber stop ...just the furry side in the engine bay.

What grease did you use please?

Ive ordered the velcro pads so will try both options. After a drive full of squeaking I can press down on each corner and it squeaks a few times then stops, but it will be there next time so the hood is working itself up I think

Sorry for the late reply. Was white lithium grease, but I would think most any grease would do...

I had the same issue, my mechanic found the squeak, it was something about the hood hinges or latches squeaking. It would only squeak when the hood was closed

Tried foam pads, the stops just ripped them off and the squeaking was just the same so tried the fluffy side of the hook & loop velcro and whilst it stayed in place this time it still hasn't solved the squeaking.

I guess its the hinge on mine so will grease that next. One thing I have observed is the latches for the hood to stay closed are a bit dry, the left one as I stand in front of the vehicle doesn’t release the hood without me pulling upwards to disengage it.

God knows where the noise is coming from

This started happening to my 14 g63 too. Same squeak as the guy in the YouTube video. I opened snd closed the hood and it went away it comes back at random.

One of these days I’m going to do the proper fix.

I guess along with vibrations and a bouncy ride with a non centered steering wheel this is one of those G things. 😅
