Question 【 HELP!!】2013 W463 Amplifier Cross Fit

Hi all,

I have a 2013 W463 G63 AMG.
Do any of y'all happen to know what is the right part I should buy for my sound/radio amplifier? My amplifier is fired for no reason and the body shop told me I need to get a new one. Local Mercedez quotes me $2,000 on an OEM part.

So I am looking for purchase a used OEM sound/audio amplifier online.
The part number I got from the body shop is 212900862980.
But when I put this part number as reference to try to purchase one online, all the websites listed as 2013 - 2015 C-class module.

Also, I found a lot HARMAN BECKER AMPLIFIER on eBay with part number of 2129005213. (It's only range from $300-$400)
This seems to be the amplifier part number for the 2013 - 2015 C-class. Do you guys know if it can work on my 2013 W463 G63?

Bodyshop warned me with even the right part number it could cause coding error so they tried to have me purchase through the dealership.

Any information is helpful!
Thank you guys so much.

Bummer. Broken down, part number 212 900 86 29 80 says that it is and electrical parts from the W212 chassis (E class 2011-2017). Many parts for the G are indeed borrowed from other lines, most often the C Class, but sometimes others as well. Make sure the PN matches. BTW, the 80 at the end means that it is a rebuilt or refurbished part. Try searching for just 212 900 86 29 and see what you find.

As for coding, I'm not sure if the amplifier needs coding as I don't believe the MOST bus interface has a provision for that. The audio Gateway should recognize the amplifier in the fiber "ring".

BTW, the body shop should make sure that the fiber optic connections are intact as I have seen this be the reason for "failure" many times.

Does anyone happen to know if install the amplifier required coding or any software stuff?

That's is one thing that the body shop prevented me to purchase a used/3rd party part. Seems like the dealership will take care of anything if there is any software issue.
Apparently the part number online showing the amplifier was borrowed from C and E class, is there anything that will block the cross fitting?

Thanks for your input, that helps me a lot.

But damn, my sucks *** lol.

When I looked up 212 900 86 29 it showing me its part for 2014 E350.
And I also found an eBay listing showing an amplifier took out from a 2015 G63 has a part number of 2129006226, but when I look it up showing it's from E400 and C250.

It basically seems likes all over the place. Because when I look up 212900862980, it has few sites that have the exactly matched part number amplifier in stock but listed from $1200~$1800. If it's the same thing I don't see myself wasted over 1k on the same thing.

If you have spare time, here is what happened:

-It was a rainy day and I was driving on the highway about 70 mph. Bluetooth connected playing music, wasn't blasting or anything.
-All of a sudden I heard a sound of electric shoot through water, "Fizz", then the music got shuts down. I remember the screen just like normal.
-I smell something burned badly inside of the car.
-White smoke came from the driver's side. (I was panic coz I thought the engine is on fired)
-Slow down the car and tried to merge into the emergency lane.
-The smoke kept coming out from the driver's side, I was so panic and I guess the G sits so tall, all I remember is the white smoke came from the steering wheel.
-I thought it was because the heating steering unit broke so I turn the heated steering off while I was merging to the emergency lane.
-The smoke didn't come out anymore and just the over burned smell stays a little bit. I opened the window and it goes away.

It seems a lot but everything happened in 1 minute, but I was so stressed lol.

Then I took it to the body shop I have been working with for a while they spend 3 hours to diagnose what happened. ($119/hr labor)
They told me was the amplifier and going to take 2 hours to install. The dealership quoted $2000 on the part and I told the body shop I will look it up by myself.
Then it comes to have so many options out there but the only way seems gonna works it's the expensive route. Rip my wallet coz I just put 5k for full-body wrap and wasn't ready for extra $2500 out of pocket.

Sounds like you need to find another dealer . . You can get a subscription the the Mercedes EPC (electronic parts catalog) for $75/year or I have read that there are some "other" (mostly Russian) sites that have the EPC info available. I'm not sure about the other sites, but the EPC will tell you which part numbers supersede each other for your particular VIN.

Sounds like your amplifier had one or more of its output transistors go shorted. Lots-o-smoke and burning smells when that happens. With bridged output designs, it's very possible that the speaker(s) may be damaged by a shorted output transistor.

Thank you fam. You are been so helpful.
I was able to locate a website http://benzcat.com/part_number/a2129005213 offer free EPC
It shows the part number I have end up with 8629(80) only shared on G55 for G wagon in North America along with some C and E class.
But when I put the ebay cheaper C-class amplifier PN into the system it does show it shared on 3 types/generations of G63. Do you think it's a good idea to try it out?
It all has the same module number of 9065.

Tbh, I feel like mercedez are using the same amplifier in a lot C and E class. I looked up some amplifier installation tutorial and it seems like it just bunch of wiring and panel disassemble and assemble.
Do you know if it will cause if the part number wasn't 100% correct? Or it is true that it can get cross fitted relatively easy?

I have no idea how the amplifier works, my friend told me it just kinda like changing a light bulb, as long as you have it wiring and adjust it correctly it should be work, since a lot of people modify stereo on their cars.

Again, thank you so much for answering all my questions!!

So I ended up getting AMP that had same part number/model as the one that came with my truck. While all amps look same, have same plugs, I believe software might be different.
Anyway, the one I got came from 2010 CLS and it fixed my audio problem
