how to remove front grill star logo 2013 g63

Hi, hope everyone is safe!

I am looking to remove the front Mercedes star logo on the grill and swap it with a black one. Tried twisting the star but don't seem to work.
Asked a friend he said he heard I need to remove the grill then unclip the star.
Have anyone done this? Is removing the grill hard? I don't want to remove the grill if there are other ways around.

Inputs are greatly appreciated!

Yes, you need to remove the grille and from behind you'll see the clips that will need to be released to get the star off....while you are at it, you can remove the chrome trim and the cross section pieces and just vinyl wrap all the pieces black. Looks pretty good when you're all done!!!

Off subject, but wanted to ask if you can used that light bar as DRL ?
Can it be used for supplemental lighting at night on streets and freeways ?

Or strictly for off roading only ?

Thanks

Way too bright for a DRL, though there is a way to make it 1/2 power ....still think its too bright. I have mine hooked up so it goes on when the high beams go on

So when you turn on your high beams, the LED light bar will overwhelm your original high beam in terms of light output ?
Overall would you say having the light bar on with the high beam on double or triple your total brightness output shining down the road?

I also would think amber color version of this same size and and brand may be less bright compared to white color and can be used as DRL.. more useful in fog and snow perhaps .

Thanks! How long does it take to remove the grill? I found an instruction with pictures and it looked like I just need to unscrew a couple of things. Is it easy?
Nice looking truck you got, like the brush guard in black!

Yeah, it just overwhelms the high beams in both how wide the beam is and also how far down the road it will go - gotta at least be double or more ....I've never seen the yellow in real life but would assume you're still blinding the person coming the other way!

You have the take the headlight covers off (2 torx screws at the bottom) first and then just the bolts up on the top of the grille. Whole thing just pulls out from there.... Not hard to do at all....

I see, thanks! Finally will have some "work" to do during the virus. Now just need to wait for the blacked-out pieces to arrive.

I am sure you have seen those bright white and amber lights on BMW cross country motorcycles coming up on your rear view mirrors. That is the brightness I would want to duplicate during the day to be seen for safety purposes. Of course on the motorcycle they are smaller and round but still very effective. Would you say your light bar brightness is similar to those ones on the BMW motorcycle I was describing in the daytime ?
Thanks

Keep us posted when you do this and maybe take a couple pics as well. I have seen some of the Black Stars that mount over the top of the existing one but replacing it is probably the better option.

It looks like Baja Design S8 LED bars is a combo DRL and bright white output all in the same bar....I wonder if that gets at what you are talking about with the BMW bikes??

While you have some extra time in your house, you could fool around with wrapping the pieces as well. I've attached a couple pics of the star after wrapping it...also give you an idea of where all the clips are to release it from your grille....

Thanks for the link. Baja lights are top not for sure and I am also looking at VisionX which are high end.
The only thing going with amber color is that during the daytime the amber color bar may look slightly out of place with the white OEM LED’s strips on both sides underneath the headlights.

Did you have to strip or cut any original factory wires to tap on to the high beams circuit with your method?

Its a standard relay harness where you hook up one end to constant power (in the hood where you jump the car) and the trigger is 12V from the high beam wire. That wire is in the headlight harness if you take out your headlight. There is a large connector with a bunch of wires...just put a voltmeter to the pins till you find the one that goes 12V with the high beams on. Then all I did was splice into that wire and thats the trigger for the LED light bar to turn on....pretty standard stuff!

Got it done today. Love it!
I also bought a Brabus badge but it seems like the base of the front grill emblem can not be separated from the grill? Can anyone confirm?
Because the base is a also a Mercedes star form so I can not just put the Brabus on.

Anyone experiment with the spare tire star yet? In a description of one of ebay the seller says the chrome one can be removed and the black one takes its place - they said to use dental floss to get behind it. It appears the chrome one has 3 pins around the center but the black one has 3M tape so I guess it just goes where the chrome one was (?).

I asked the ebay seller of the front and rear stars and this is what he said regarding the removal:

"Front radiator grill emblem is with clips, it requires to be very gentle to not damage the radiator grill

If you havent done it before it is better to make it at workshop

Rear spare cover is simply a "sticker" it also just requires to be gentle to avoid scratching the main spare wheel cover when removing it

I would also advise to make at workshop as it is quite simple but requires proper tools and skills to make it perfectly"

Using a hairdryer on the rear one first as you use dental floss behind it will make it much easier to remove.
