New G63 Hood Metal Indentation Vibration

Has anyone else experienced or noticed that the center of the hood will vibrate and indent at highway speeds? I have been trying to get my dealer and MB USA to address the issue for over a year, and they seem to ignore me. The service director acknowledged the issue in my car, and said they had another customer at the time with the same concern, but have since been useless. That was in May of 2019, and here we are a year later and NOTHING. Not bad for customer service on a $200K car!

Anyway, hoping others have had better success?

do you have a photo or video? I do not have this issue on my car. MBUSA is notoriously known for their horrendous customer service. Have you tried another dealership or even an independent shop to see if they can adjust the hood?

Video difficult to make out, but look towards very center of hood and you can see the reflection of the tree line bouncing up and down.

This is beyond adjustment. It appears to be a design defect. Hard to make out, but look towards center of hood, and towards wiper cowl and you will see the reflections warp. That is the skin of the hood pressing inwards as the speed/wind increase.

I do not have mine yet so I have to ask: what is on the underside of the hood in that area? When the hood is latched closed can you press on the front edge and feel movement?

I feel like my old one had something similar, but can I ask why it is so bothersome? Honestly, I can't really notice much and if it's not visible when the car is parked and it's not permanent, I think it'll be fine? I think the hood on the new ones (W463A) is much more flexible than the 2013-18 models (W463). it doesn't seem like the value of the car would be affected in any way..? I have warping with reflections on my 2020 near the door handles and the trim pieces on the side but it's not technically a dent. It might just be the way the metal was shaped.

if your dealer isn’t giving you great service leave them a 1 star bad review on Google reviews, cars.com, their Facebook page, etc and watch them call you immediately to resolve the issue. This method always works when dealers aren’t holding their end of the bargain.

The 2013 - 2018 models were notorious for hood noises and squeaks. I have to grease the two rubber mounts mounted at the end of each corner under the hood. Sometimes you will get fooled thinking it’s a suspension going bad noise. Not sure if the 2019+ also have 2 adjustable rubber mounts under the front of each corner of the hood. Sometimes they need to be adjusted for the hood to shut properly

the new models do not have those two rubber mounts. And my god those were horrible on the old one! I also had to keep putting tape on them so it wouldn't squeak.

My '08 G55 that I am doing a full sound-seal on is noise free, except those two damn mounts. I've even replaced them with larger surface area ones and thick tape. FML.

Mine just started with the squeaking. Definitely the hood. How did your solution work out? I'm going to apply some electrical tape and see how that works.

Check this post on my truck,

https://mbworld.org/forums/g-class-w...ml#post8060058

I got some thicker tape, which is perfect on the passenger side, but I need to readjust and reapply on the driver's side. Haven't jumped back on it, as I haven't driven the truck much as I am waiting for my headliner to get sorted.

The larger hood stop link is in that post, as well as the tape I purchased.

Awesome, thanks!

Nice thread with great pics and information. Looks like you are really enjoying the truck.

Does it make noise? Seeing the hood dent-in and vibrate at speed would annoy me too. Do other G's on the lot have the same problem? I have had luck with stealers by taking an identical car on the lot and doing comparisons. If other cars are not doing it, maybe you can push them to get challenged by it and try to fix it by comparing a known good hood with a ****ed hood.

It is bothersome because it is denting the hood. I have twice had to have my dent removal guy straighten the panel when the indentations had become fixed in an indented position.

If it's denting the good to the point you need to have a third party repair/address then you need to take it to the dealer. This is not acceptable.
