Ineos Grenadier - What a new Land Rover should have been

Interesting that the company is going full circle back to old school body on ladder frame with solid axles and coil springs suspension, just goes to show it's a classic, proven design. No school like the old school!

The new Defender is a huge disappointment and i doubt will deliver the results Land Rover is counting on. Hopefully Ford comes through with something great in their new Bronco.

The new Defender may be getting rave reviews but I think it's interesting that a company with a clean sheet approach (and I assume a substantial budget) to build an "ultimate" off-road and rugged vehicle went back to old school traditional tech as the basis for the vehicle. And they did that knowing that today's generation probably do want all the bells and whistles of air suspension and computer controlled this and that.
Plus, it's the G Wagon's cousin with the involvement of Magna in Austria.

or it does get to production with an extremely high price tag ($300,000+)

The New Defender looks like a Honda Element...not a good thing for such an iconic vehicle ....I’ve seen it in person...drove it , and it is a big disappointment. My wife and 2 boys all made a point to say it looks weak and too much of the appearance is plastic looking and cheap ...The vehicle has ZERO exterior presence ...the inside is nice enough—-good effort by the interior team....The exterior team really dropped the ball....The only vehicle I remember where the exterior design team missed the mark this poorly was the 1999-2004 Porsche 911....the front end on that 911 was a complete disaster ....much like the disaster that is the New Defender....I had a 1997 D90...still love that car...I will probably get one and have a custom built/updated d90 or d110....as far as prices over msrp...I’ve had 3 offered to me in SoCal area...I think demand will be lower very soon...many people WANT to like the new defender but most seem to only say they like it...not love it...Cheers

I've built two overland LRs since, and sold both. As I was looking for what to build next I randomly got an E63 just to get some speed back under me, then fell in love w the brand.
Held out to see what the new defender would be, passed on some amazing D100s and even almost scooped a D130. In that time I found this section of the forum and after research and seeing the new defender drop, I knew the W463 was the way to go. Grabbed a mint G55... began modding and couldn't be happier.. almost done w my overlanding build
Drove past a few new Defenders last weekend in Malibu w my wife and we just looked at each other shaking our heads at all of them.
I do really hope to see one w the most basic trim and steelies on it w an overlanding build, but aside from that they look like aluminum cans that will not leave as big a footprint as their predecessors.
