Aux Fan Issues (I think)

Hi all, had a question regarding the aux fans in the grill, as I have been having some intermittent A/C issues.

Anyway, it is about 90 degrees here today, I turn on the truck, turn on the A/C, and the aux fans do not come on. Eventually they turn on in “super jet engine takeoff” mode. Very loud, but also this is when the A/C blows cold.

I drive around some and the aux fans turn off and the A/C warms up....this cycle continues on and off.

1). From what I read, the aux fans have a low and a high speed, it appears my low speed is not working properly....?

2). It appears the aux fans should be on whenever the A/C is on? (I also saw some opposing information). Regardless, I wouldn’t think they would turn off completely when the a/c is on and it is 90...

3). What triggers the low speed aux fan to turn on?Where is it located? I found 2 relays under the dash, but one is for the right fan and the other for the left....so I am assuming they are not the issue, as they are supplying power and both fans are operating in sync.

Any help would be appreciated...

Thank you in advance!!

What year is your G? For earlier MBUSA Gs there is a 10 Amp fuse in the panel on the left side of the dash that affects fan operation. Check for a blown fuse. I had the same symptoms you describe on my '03 and it was that fuse.

Thanks for the reply, it is an 08 G500

I attached some pics of the fuses I think are associated with it...

I checked those and they were good. Perhaps I am checking the wrong ones....

It was not one of the high current "engine fan" fuses that one might expect from the name. Rather, it was more innocuously labeled with something like "fan" or "blower" or "heater". I wish I could remember that exact one, but I I'm sure it was one of the smaller ones. Try checking fuse 30 and 41.

30 and 41 could definitely be involved...

I visually inspected 30 & 41 as my multi-meter is mia, they appeared fine. However, I better buy (or find) my other one to confirm.

i really appreciate your help.
