The same thing happened to me on my Range Rover. Engine shut off in the middle of the intersection and I had both my kids in the back seat. A really dangerous situation. On the Range Rover, it was the damn auto start/stop function that is suppose to save gas, but who the hell buys a Gwagon/Range Rover b/c they care about saving on fuel. I sued RR and won with the Lemon Law in CA. Make sure you document everything, and keep the service records. You do not need to have this issue come up at an intersection for it to be turned back into the dealer. I loved the RR, and my wife and kids prefer that ride over the Gwagon, but RR has always had a history of poor reliability and I really like the new model that just came out, but am gun shy b/c of how much time that vehicle spent at the dealer. It came out to 12 days per yr, for a total of 5 yrs. That's a lot of time at the dealership.

may I ask, how was this ever resolved? I had something similar happen. When I brought it to the dealership, I was told “ that’s what happens” — I told them you should NEVER be able to turn off a car that is in drive. Only park or neutral. I called Mercedes corporate and they agreed, the ignition button should not turn off the car while it is in drive. This has to be a known problem to Mercedes. It is now 2023.

2023 G550 stalling/Turning off while driving
Hi. Bough new 2023 G550. While driving at low speeds entering freeway it shut down on me. All lights illuminated on dash. Turned off and turned back on. Everything went away and it’s back to normal. Took to dealer and showed them video I took. It’s been at dealer two days. Haven’t heard back. 350 miles odometer
