Post-Delivery Factory Option Add on Hitch & Steering buttons
Took delivery of my G63 Recently. Wanted to share that the idea of adding the following factory options is possible after delivery
1)Trailer Hitch. Needs controller / harness /receiver hitch. Coding done at local AD dealer. (In case you are wondering, local AD brings in the car with no option of configuring hitch from where I'm from)
I used the hitch for bike rack but have since figured out how to transport the entire bike in the car upright without removing the bike wheels.
2)AMG steering buttons U88. I had to get germany's permission for local AD to perform the retrofit. Coding was done by germany remotely at local AD.
This is a value add retrofit for me as I dont have to look down at the center console and find where the suspension button and dynamic select switch are.
After the retrofits, the VIN reflects the option codes.
Thanks for sharing. Got a couple of questions if you don't mind asking:
1. Did you buy just the buttons or have to replace the steering wheel?
2. Where did you get the iPhone holder in the center console? that looks very clean
1)didnt change the steering wheel. Just swapped out the top/ bottom bezel and contact plate (behind steering wheel) and added the buttons.
2)proclipusa. Swivel, center console attachment and iphone holder.
If you have heated steering whee, you would lose that function. The airbag needs to be removed before the top and bottom shell or bezel can be swapped out.
The bottom shell has 2 pcs where the Amg button/controller rest on.
The pic below shows the parts to be swapped out/added.
This just might be the best news I've heard since COVID killed my order for a 2020 E63s. If it turns out that I could've done this mod to one of the pre-owned cars I was looking at I'll be a bit dejected but also a bit excited to find another car sooner than I had imagined.
