How long do you plan on keeping your G before trading in/upgrading, presumably to a newer one? Wonder if it would be a wise idea to reserve a 2022 and keep updating every two years since high resale values make that quite easy.

I plan on keeping my incoming 2021 G63 until the new redesign comes out again. The last couple of redesigns were 2013 and then 2019 so I assume the next redesign won't be until 2025 at earliest.

As long as I can. Traded in my '03 on my current G. Surprisingly high trade value for the '03.

Also planning on keeping my 2020 for as long as possible...paid a lot for full XPEL and ceramic coating so no need for me to constantly upgrade it every 2 years. Had my old 2015 for 4 years and still felt new.

Ditto. I made an investment in the same and along with the personal touches I am doing it will be just the way I want it so its replacement is not even being considered yet.

If you're getting it at sticker each time it might make sense. I still think you will be losing money since the dealer will kill you on trade in value and you'll be burning the sales taxes each time. Also each time you are trading it in, you will get less money since these markups are gradually shrinking towards MSRP.

So only makes sense if you care about the feature updates a new model year might bring or if you really want to experience a totally different spec.

This is a silly analogy, but I was considering trading my wife's 2018 Odyssey for a 2021 Odyssey which is the same generation just a refresh. However, the updates were underwhelming and it doesn't make since to spend say $15k just to get basically the same vehicle.

That's how I look at things when I eventually get my G. Unless something dramatic changes, I don't think it'll be worth the money to update just to get some new minor tweaks, especially as others have pointed out sinking $5k+ in PPF and ceramic coatings with each new vehicle. Even MBUX wouldn't be enough to entice me lol.

I typically keep vehicles 5-6 years up to 100,000 miles, although with the G I could see myself keeping it longer if it's decently reliable.

On the flip side because it looks basically the same, I could get a new one at any time and my wife would never know.

My 2005 G55k 90k on it now. It's going to my kid when he turns 16 no matter how many miles are on it. I'll teach him oil changes, drivetrain repair, and engine rebuilding, welding when rust starts eating through, etc on it when that happens.

Same here Shiann! Though he just turned 16 last wk & knows how to change oil, replace rotors & brake pads... The G will be his when he learns to be more responsible haha 😂. He’s learning how to drive now. Good luck to me.

I’ve had mine for nearly 12 years, bought it with 3200 miles on it and have 112k now... I maintain it obsessively with high levels of preventative maintenance as well as scheduled, I’ve updated countless parts and love the thing as much now as I did when I first got it. I will happily have mine for many many years to come.

Same here, as long as possible! Got it brand new almost 2.5 yrs ago and got a total of 7yr warranty on it. I’d only replace it if I can get a Professional G300 CDI

@aer_g500, i see your truck from time to time in the marina, definitely beautiful and clearly shows the pride of ownership.

I'll be keeping mine for as long as I can still climb up into the seat... She's only going to get more classic as the years go by.

and, keep in mind you can always get a nice pair of auto deploying/retracting running boards, thusly allowing most 90+ yr olds easy ingress/egress.😂

I couldn’t agree with you more! I paid $205k for my 2020 G63, but I’d dump it in a NY minute and pay more than this for a new G-Pro diesel!

Course, that’s no longer possible, since Mercedes announced a few months ago they have completely discontinued all production of the G-Professional line.

Now, all you can dream about is to attempt to buy a military G, with its beaut diesel, of course, which is even more impossible than snagging a really, really old G-Pro, and paying a king’s ransom to import it into the US. Sigh...

Absolutely love it- feel like the luckiest woman in the world ever time I drive it. He’s a family member now. My OH says we will see if we change when an ‘update’ arrives but as far as I’m concerned he will be the last car I drive- it’s true love.

I didn’t realise that the pro had discontinued- this is sad news! :-(. I feel your pain.
