My G63 Is Finally Here

Hello everyone. I just wanted to share some pictures of my G63 which arrived this week. (you have no idea how many times I dreamed about this moment) G Wagen's been my dream car since I can't even remember. Though it was a bit risky decision in the beginning to put a deposit down on something I never had in the past or test drove one before. It's been quite a journey (16 months) after the build but I never regret it. I took a leap of faith and my instinct was correct. I love every inch of this car!! I jumped from Range Rover SC to G63, and oh boy it's a whole new world. I love how it sounds and drives and the mostly I love when other people on the road looking at me. Lastly, I want to thank all for sharing whatever the infos and mod ideas as I'm still new to the G Wagen. Wish me luck and I will be seeing you around.

Welcome! Not test driving one before buying is pretty ballsy to me but I am glad it worked out in your favor!

Yes, I know it was ballsy move. My wife was skeptical and wanted us to settle with something else. Well, now she enjoys driving the truck more than I do. Glad it all worked out for the best.

First time I drove a new model G63 was on the actual day of delivery as well. Came from a RR LWB so was not sure what to expect. Still loving it 6 months in! Also my dream ride since forever. Congrats!

I only sat in one at the dealer before I ordered mine.

I drove mine in "Comfort mode" during the break-in period. I forgot that there was other modes until I read a post the other day where a G 63 owner mentioned how much more responsive everything is in "Sport + Mode.". He was right! Comfort mode is fine, but after you try Sport + you'll never want to go back to Comfort mode again

One other thing. The fuel gauge... I'm sure there's a reasonable explanation. I always check the fuel gauge after I fill up the tank to make sure it shows it's full. Then, I drive away happy as can be, and the next time I glance at the fuel gauge it's about half full :-J Every time. WTF

I was joking around I'm sure the fuel gauge works fine. Even with a 26 gallon tank, it's surprising how often you have to stop for gas It looks like I only get about 11 or 12 MPG around town. I do better on the highway. I got 14.7 MPG on a 700 mile trip with the truck fully loaded with gear and the cruise control set at 85 most of the time. I bet I would have done better (16 or 17) unloaded with cruise set at 70.

I could probably get a little better mileage around town if I kept it in Comfort Mode, but it's hard to go back after Sport + mode.

You've probably read a lot of comments about Lane Keep Assist. It's too aggressive IMHO. I automatically turn LKA off every time I start the car.

Lol. Somehow I thought you were serious I remember reading a discussion awhile ago that some members had trouble with their fuel gauge, not showing it as full? Hopefully mine doesn't give me that headache. What's up with that LKA!? It happened to me the other night, scared crap out of me. I'm trying to build up my own habit turning it off as soon as I turn the car on.

There's quite a bit of talk about LKA on this forum. The consensus seems to be that it's simply too aggressive. Maybe it could be beneficial in some circumstances, e.g., a long trip where you don't mind having the car jerk itself back into the lane if you get drowsy, but not for daily driving situations IMHO. I have a terrible memory, but LKA bothers me so much that I do remember to turn it off about 95 percent of the time My wife rarely drives the G, but she's heard me complain about the LKA a LOT. But she never experienced it herself until she was driving the other day by herself. When she got home, she told me that now she understands why I've been complaining so much about LKA. She said it scared her a lot. She had no idea what was happening at first, and then she realized what it was. But, it still shook her up. She said it could have caused het to have an an accident.

BTW, you would think there would be an easy way to disable LKA. if there is, then nobody around here has found it Someone said that LKA is automatically disabled when you tow a trailer. That sounds like a good idea. I hope it's true. Another person recently commented that LKA is turned off when you put the G in Sport + mode. That's what got me to try Sport + mode However, unless I'm doing something wrong, LKA remained active when I was in Sport + mode. At least the red light on the LKA button remained on while I was in Sport + mode. I didn't want to take any chances so I continue to manually turn LKA off no matter which driving mode I choose.
