2015 vs 2016 G 550 advice

Ok guys, looking for some input. I'm conflcted on my choices.

1. 2015 with 22,000 miles. Gloss black with walnut (i think) trim and designo leather. I negotiated to have them certify it and add 2 more years warranty. So now $82.5k with 3 year warranty.

2. CPO 2016 with about 60,000 miles. Matte black, matte black wheels, piano black trim. Negotiated a 3 year warranty for $80.5k.

The 2016 has the color and trim I'd prefer, the updated engine and the adjustable suspension. But I'm still hesitant about triple the miles.

Both being certified with unlimited miles, should i be that concerned with mileage? Any thoughts or insight appreciated. Thanks

Jason

I always advocate going with the latest model year you can afford. In this case, based on two vehicles, I'd go with the fifteen because of the mileage and the warranty. I'm also not a fan of matte finishes. The 38K miles is a big spread IMO. Good luck with whatever choice you make.

2015... miles too high on 2016 for a car you are about to buy. plus warranty extension very good attribute

G63, G65
In the mid to low $80K range I would think you could get a 2015 G63 with reasonable miles. Unless you specifically want a G550. If so, I'd go with the 2015 with siginificantly lower miles. No real change between the 2015 and 2016, and the mileage difference in this case overrules the year difference.

No more MB:(
I would never buy a used vehicle with higher mileage, no matter the deal is. Go with the 15, not really a difference between the two years.

The 2015 for sure. Besides the low miles and warranty, I believe 2016 was the first year for the "hot V" twin turbo engine on the G550 which, IMHO, is a maintenance nightmare waiting to happen.

there are major changes from 2015 to 2016 on the G 550, both mechanically and aesthetically. I would go with the newer car but i think you’re overpaying for it in your case. The M176 4.0TT engine is quite the gem. You should be able to get a CPO 2016+ car with 40k miles or less in the very low $80k range.

2021 G550
Big change in engine for the 2016. If you can wait until Jan, you can take my 2016 G550 which currently has about 17k miles on it...have a 2021 G550 scheduled for a December build. In Connecticut.

Thanks for all the advice guys. I went with the 15 based on mileage. Not sure if I over payed, but from what was out there, and the miles, it was lower than what I've seen. I got them to include transport, so that saves a little cash. I paid around 7k for them to CPO and 2 year extension. I'm used to having a warranty on my trucks when i get a new one, so it's worth the piece of mind to me.

I couldn't find an AMG at that price point with low miles and warranty, but the '13 I drove locally had plenty of power and I have a good condition S55 I use for fun sometimes.

The G replaces my Ram as my daily (once I start driving daily to work again). I've been driving Ram's for 16 years, but don't really need the massive space as the kids start leaving.

I wanted an SUV, but not something normal or common. My other option would've been maybe a low mile GLS 63, but even that's a bit normal looking. Likely better road manners and better tech, but i really like the look of the G, so we'll see. I'll keep my truck around for a while just in case I don't like it.

The G will see plenty of backroads and the occasional sand dune near Lake Michigan, but potential off roading if/when I get the chance.

It still needs to go thru the CPO process and then transport here. I'll post up some pics when it gets here though. Thanks again for everyone's input.

Jason
