Question Wind/Cabin Noise? Great or Terrible?

Hey all, I've read various threads about the new G's cabin-noise being pretty good. I believe one poster described it as "vault-like". I'm about a week into my new G63, and I would not describe it that way. Over about 50 mph, I hear distinct wind-noise coming from the passenger windows. It doesn't sound like a broken seal, but it does almost sound like the window is a tiny bit open.

Does anyone else experience this? I know the car isn't aerodynamic, so I may just be hearing the natural result of the air moving over the shape of the car – but the way people described it here, I'm surprised that it sounds like it does. Would also be curious to know if there are any home remedies or tests I could do.Would rather not take it in for service <7 days of ownership...

Let me know!

Mine is closer to vault-like compared to an open window. I have been up to 80 and still find it acceptable.

I am with @Bob Z. At >80mph and I hear faint whistle noise, very quiet otherwise. Btw, I had the rear vent/outlets replaced as a fix for cabin pressure / noise.

Would you mind elaborating on that? I have also noticed weird pressure feeling. What was the issue with the vent/outlets?

,
I hear it as well. It definitely isn't a pleasurable noise. In fact I would say the windnoise is the one thing that the G Wagon cannot compete on when it comes to being a proper luxury vehicle. It's expected from the shape of course.

my G63 definitely has wind noise but not as bad as yours or enough to annoy me... it definitely doesnt feel like a seal is broken... its a lunchbox with an oversized engine... wind noise is part of the G charm...

Unfortunately wind noise is part of the G's many idiosyncrasies. Even with the redesign, especially at higher speeds, there is noise that you wouldn't expect in a vehicle at this price point. I occasionally get to drive a friends BMW X7. That is a totally different story. At triple digit speeds you need to constantly check the speedometer to avoid getting in trouble. And it is quiet and vault like and handles well. That being said, I wouldn't trade my G for it. There are certain "quirks" that are endemic to the G but, to me, that is part of the allure. It is part of the uniqueness/character of the truck. It will never be S Class quiet and that's OK with me. I always advise those interested in purchasing a G to take a long test drive covering many different driving conditions. I agree with a previous poster that there have been cabin pressure problems but there is a fix for that issue. Bottom line....not a truck for everyone. But for me...I'll never be without one (quirks and all).

Some wind noise. Sure. But nothing a passenger would notice and say anything about. With radio on at a quiet level mine is entirely gone. Sometimes on windy days the driver side window by my ear seems like it may let some wind in when there is a heavy cross wind. But that is a Guirk! (gclass quirk). I have two toddlers in the back and when they are sleeping it is vault like.

Try rolling the windows down when driving 50-65mph. Notice how violent the wind is. Then roll up those extra think double-paned windows and you will again feel like your are in a vault and it feels like magic all that wind is filtered out.

Update: I had it up to 100 today and still nothing noticeable...better than I thought after reading about it before I had one.

Lol..I’ve done triple digits few times (bit irresponsible, don’t do it unless you’re absolutely safe to do so) and it’s fine. I’m not going to compare with my RR ATB, not fair and not the same category of vehicle imho. I agree with @johnnyderm , I almost always have the sound on so never notice whistle.

Dealership performed multiple repairs and replacements, had to do with doors seals and replacing rear vents. The procedure they used: “6795 FOUND LI83.10-P-069466 PERFORM LI AS PER REMEDY INSTRUCTIONS PERFORM ALL STEPS PROVIDED ON LI DOCUMENT.”
