2016 motor vibration at 1500 and 2000 rpms

I have a 2016 G 550 that I just purchased with 22000 miles. Clean car. 1 owner lease. Like their 5th car for bad weather and to look good on the driveway! Has 1 yr factory warranty, 1 yr additional warranty being Mercedes certified and an additional 2 yr extended Mercedes warranty so 4 yr total with unlimited mileage. Question for you if you don’t mind, seeing most of you have been around these G ‘s for so long. Mercedes dealership I purchased from put 4 new tires, front brakes supposedly road force balanced all tires and aligned. Drove fine on 2 hr test drive. When I picked it up got on the highway to drive it home 100 miles away, once the traffic started to role, i noticed I could hardly hold the wheel! Was not happy. Figured I would have my local dealer correct it seeing I know them pretty well. They changed steering stabilizer, rebalanced tires, realigned it and changed some form of a plunger in the steering box. That’s what I was told. Seemed to drive 98% better but at 1500 rpms and about 2200 rpms I get a shake - vibration. Figured it is definitely engine. So if I am rolling at 2200 rpms in any gear I feel it, as soon as I release the accelerator pedal it disappears instantly. So I decided to pull over and go into neutral, slowly rev to 1500 then 2200 and hold it there and it vibrates and shakes like crazy. Told and showed service about it and they said motor mounts and trans. mount we’re fine. Said they think it could be normal. But trust me it can’t be. It’s nasty to drive at those rpms. As they agreed. Any ideas or maybe know someone that might know what’s happening?? Any advice would be so greatly appreciated. I am new to the forum so thanks for taking the time to read this. Greg

Did they hook it up to a scan tool to see if any codes were being thrown? Any irregular idle (up or down, or shaking)? What happens above 2,200 RPM? Does it smooth back out?

Sounds like an imbalance maybe caused by a misfire. I agree with the recommendation to look at codes. My idea is maybe a bad fuel injector.

That is nor normal. It needs to be determined whether the issue is a mis-fire issue or a mechanical imbalance. While not likely with such low miles, things like a cracked crankshaft dampener, issues with the serpentine belt, and even the torque converter can create a mechanical imbalance. The ECU stores quite a bit of information related to engine operation, even events that are not sufficient to warrant a check engine light. It needs to be read on a Star system to get the full story.

Hello, yes dealer did scan it and said nothing showed up. Slight shake on idle but noticeable. And you are correct as it does smooth out after 2200-2300rpms.
When it down shifts it always goes to1500 rpms and that’s when I get the vibration, then it gets bad again around 2200 rpms. Sitting in park as well as neutral and slowly bringing up the rpms it happens as I showed dealer. Vehicle is beautiful and in perfect condition and is temperature controlled garage, but it’s really starting to aggravate me when I do drive it. Any suggestions so I can pass them along? Your help is much appreciated

Thanks for your reply. I will pass your advice along as suggestions to my dealer. They don’t work with many g series I don’t think. The service tech is very good and quite helpful but has not experienced this problem with this model Mercedes

The twin turbo engine was new to the G in 2016, so there may be some dealer service bulletins on vibrations. Make sure the dealer checks.

I'd have your mechanic do a compression test on all the cylinders. I'm not certain but I don't think there's an OBD code for a busted connecting rod.

Also have them test each of the fuel injectors. They can remove them and test flow.
