Trail package

Does anyone have a G63 w trail package or any experience w it?
Anyone knows tire size?
Since it is 20", will it be narrower than 21"?
Will the car be at same height of a one w 21" ?

the dealer advised me against it, harder ride due to special tire.
Trail suspension historically has been a problem w other brands on long term.
I love the look of the wheels since the 21" are no longer available in silver and black combo.

There are a few on here that have it. They bought it for the exact opposite reason the dealer told you. It is a softer ride as the tire is thicker and absorbs the terrain.

I am sure there are other reasons they bought it too....but none of them side it rides worse.

I have the trail package but opted for the 21". Supposed to Ride softer on road. But have not driven a non-trail package to give a definitive answer.

I spec'ed trail package as mercedes sold it as more comfortable on longer gravel or road rides.

i have trail package on my 2020 G63 and what your dealer said is the opposite... softer ride in comfort mode. not sure what they mean by “special tires”... they are all season on 20’s. i absolutely love trail package and wouldnt spec one without it. whats cool is you really feel the difference from Comfort mode to sport +... big difference. the mud flaps are kind of cool as well. for NJ winter, its a good package to have.

Thank you all.
I had a 2019 w 21' two tones which came with the night package. Unfortunately, it s no longer available. I love the wheel look on trail package but worried that it might look small for the car.

I liked those 21" also and would have spec'd them if they were still available.

Kinda defeats the purpose of the trail package to swap out the wheel and tire combo, but you can easily order or find those 21 two-tones still and put them on a new G63.

You don’t get the trial package option in the U.K. and I’m looking at getting some winter rims and tires, I was just going to duplicate what they offer in the trail package.

thanks

ls the total diameter ( tire and rim) of the 20" trail package wheel smaller than the 21"?
Te 20 " seems to have thicker tire.

I'm pretty sure they are Pirelli Scorpion All Terrain Plus in 275/50R20. The overall diameter of the 21" wheels with stock 285/45R21 tires is 31.1" and the 20" wheels with 275/50R20 tires is 30.8". The 20" tire is also 0.4" narrower than the 21" tire.

I have a set of 20" wheels coming in that I'm going to put 275/55R20 BFG K02s on. It's a slightly larger overall diameter than my stock 22s at 31.9" and doesn't have any issues with rubbing. The K02s have a slightly more aggressive look than the Pirelli all terrains and its definitely a better tire if you plan to do any sort of off roading.

It sounds like that seller didn't purchase the trail package with the car and bought the trail package wheels from a 3rd party with the Nittos. The stock tire if you order the trail package on the car with the 20" trail package wheel is the Pirelli ATR 275/50R20.

My bad...they look similar though, and since they use Pirellis on other wheels it would make sense.

Any view on what would be better:
Pirelli ATR 275/50R20
or
Nitto Ridge Grapplers 285/50 R20

They need to be ok on the road, if and when off road it’s muddy fields!

So these are the standard wheels on the Trial Package?

Pirelli Scorpion Winter ATR 275/50 R20 113V

I’m tempted on the Nitto Ridge Grapplers, they look more aggressive (Do you know if they still good on the road, I’m only a weekend off-roader and at the most it’s muddy fields). Do you know if the Nitto’s rub, that’s why I’m leaning towards the standard OEM choice tyres to avoid any issues..

Still debating

I think that large 21" wheels look better on the car but I love the design of the 20" trail wheels. Never seen personally yet to decide

The trail package is as good as you expect. Just make sure when you order the "Trail Package" to DE SELECT Pirelli scorpions tyres so once they build it the will install the all season tyres instead and i am sure you will like it more.

the dealer advised me against it, harder ride due to special tire.
Trail suspension historically has been a problem w other brands on long term.
I love the look of the wheels since the 21" are no longer available in silver and black combo.

The Pirelli Scorpion ATR 275/50R20 are standard with the trail package unless you deselect the all terrain tire option. I think the Pirelli All Terrain Plus is the new version of the ATR, but I'm not sure if mercedes is putting them on the trail package yet. I don't know a lot about the Nitto Ridge Grapplers, but from what I've read they should be a lot better than the Pirellis off road. They may be noisier and a little stiffer on road though. I believe you can get the Nittos in a 285/50R20 size which is 31.2" overall diameter so they won't rub.

https://tiresize.com/wheel-offset-calculator/ this website is really helpful in figuring out the size of a tire.
