Removing front Coil Springs to Install Spacers
The front coil springs are kicking me in the butt right now. I jacked up the driver side, removed front driver side wheel, jacked up axle and installed spring compressors.
When I let the axle drop, the spring is still loaded and I cannot remove it.
Does anyone have any tips or tricks to this?

Tips for the front
1. It is important to lift the entire front end up and place body of jacks. The front axle has a lot of travel and it dropped a lot farther than I expected. This helped me gain the drop needed to remove spring.
2. Unbolt the lower shock mount.
3. I loosened the sway bar u-bolt brackets that connects the sway back to the control arm so I had additional play.
4. When installing the spring compressors, It is helpful to get as many coils when you install it. That means using a jack to jack up the hub so the springs compress. The black compressor tool shown below worked well on the front.
5. I didnt have an issue with the brake line tension but there wasnt much slack left.
6. Have a set of pry bars handy so you can install the new spring and spacer assembly into the vehicle.
Tips for the rear.
1. I was installing the lift and 22 wheels so I quickly found that my jacks and jack werent meant for the lifted vehicle. Needed taller equipment.
2. I jacked the rear up and then removed wheels.
3. Unbolted the lower shock mount.
4. Be careful when droppiing the axle because there is enough travel to bind your brake lines.
5. I used the silver compressor kit on the rear because it fit the area better.
6. The rear was more difficult for me but I was able to get the spacer installed with the help from my pry bars.
I am happy with the finished product. It sits great and still drives like it did before. I have replaced springs on sedans/coupes but this was my first time on an offroad SUV. It kicked my butt, but its done.
Worked well on the front
Worked well on the rear
Finished product. 40mm spacers and 22" wheels and 285/45r/22 tires
