I have already removed the brush guard from my 2021 G550 and patiently waiting for a permanent solution for the holes. I found the part number for the front camera on the G63 and European spec'd G550. The big question is, does anyone know if it will work once installed? It appears the wire is there and the housing looks like it will accommodate the camera once the dummy plug is removed, I just don't know how to get the system to recognize it and display it. Anyone know?
Picture is from when I picked it up at the dealer before I removed the brush guard.
I ordered the needed parts to install the camera tonight, I'll send an update once its installed and I attempt to work through getting it functional. If successful, roughly a $300 fix if self installed. I found the camera on eBay for $275 and ordered the two needed mounting pieces from Mercedes OEM for roughly $10. If I can get it all working, I will post the part numbers and process.

Great, another reason this forum can be very helpful to all of us!

I saw a YouTube video not too long ago, where the guy said, “All of the G550s are wired up for it, you just need the camera and to activate it.”
I don’t know what country he was in though....but he spoke English....maybe Canada...? (I know that narrows it down
I am guessing dealership software is needed to activate it, hopefully it is something the average dealer can do.
With that being said, if everything works, it will just give you a front end camera view, correct? Or are the other cameras for 360 view already installed from the factory in the G550?
Bob
Those are the part numbers I ordered. I found the camera on eBay.
I am not certain what the ultimate outcome will be. I would assume that if you add the front camera and have a dealer program it, it should have all the features that are available in the European spec'd 550's and the G63. Hoping to get it installed next week and then go from there. Ill update once I have made some additional progress.
I hadn't thought about there being additional cameras in the mirrors. I will add that to the list of items to confirm and potentially resolve. Back from clear bra and swapped out the wheels for a set of Vossen 22's
After some research and a conversation with a buddy at Mercedes, here is what I can know so far:
In order for the full 360 deg. camera function to work you will need a surround camera in both mirrors and the front grill camera(parts listed above)
The camera for the mirrors is one that is used in many models so its easy to come by (eBay New $189 x2).
The mirror housing it's self is different with or without the camera, it isn't however overly expensive (new OEM roughly $275 x2)
The signal lens is a different part number for mirrors with or without a camera (new OEM roughly $90 x 2)
I am working through the rest of the details but it looks like everything else in your current mirror is interchangeable.
The unproven theoretical cost to upgrade a US G550 to having the full 360 camera function looks to be:
Front camera & parts-$300
Mirror cameras & parts-$1100
Labor-? In my case, I will do the labor myself and believe I have a technician willing to try and tackle the programing part at no charge
All said, I am going to order everything and give it a shot. For $1,400, (if that ends up being the case) it's well worth the cost, especially after cautiously parking a couple times in my shop next to my Huracan!
Nice work...keep us posted. I would be happy with just the front camera! I talked to the Service Manager at the dealer I bought my G from and he said they are no longer able to enable/disable functions (direction from the motherland) so I will have to find an Indy Shop that can do it.
A little update and unfortunately it's not good news. After a couple hours of effort this evening and an accidental broken headlight frame, it does not appear the US spec'd 550s have the wire for the camera in the front. I am going to dig a little deeper to see if there is a partial harness or video wire that is separate but at the moment it doesn't look good. I am going to keep working on it and will update everyone if I am able to find a solution. More to come after the holidays.
Just and FYI to anyone looking to remove the headlight frame or grill on your 19' or newer G, the bumper MUST be removed first. Once that is off, the rest is pretty easy. If you font do the bumper first, it puts the headlight frame in a bind and breaks the tabs that mount it.

Thanks for the update, sorry to hear about the headlight frame.
Thanks for being a pioneer in trying to figure this out...perplexes me that it is standard in many other countries and that Mercedes doesn’t even give the option to US buyers.

Especially when one can get it in Canada, and delete the brush bar!!!
In today's world of auto manufacturing - the wiring harness for the vehicle is made to match the EXACT PRODUCTION FEATURE that are planned for that vehicle - so NO there are NOT any extra wiring/connections hanging inside the US G550 that will give you plug-n-play install for 360 surround.
YES - it's much more intense investigation - you might start by emailing Vladimir in Belarus (canfiltermb@tgmail.com - the MB OBD coding magician) and see what he and the other Eastern European MB Mod guys suggest "might" or "could be" done..
Camerasmounts (you seem to have a handle on that part) - Harness/Connections (that part needs more work) - Head/Unit (you need to find out if this "can be" a coding thing (and Vladimir :should" be able to tell you what he thinks.
