My Dobe rides in the trunk. The only problem I had was when he was still a puppy he chewed up the bracket to the privacy screen bracket in the 40 minutes it took to drive back from the dealership when I picked up my truck.

A puppy's job is to be cute, keep your vet busy and chew up everything within reach. A crate and a chew toy will keep you both happy.

I second this - something snug for the doggo. We have a mid sized 50 lb mutt and when he was a baby we took him for a drive in the G. He rode in the back and was so excited to look out the window and walk around that he kept falling over whenever I turned or braked downhills. He eventually puked - poor guy. Ironically he does best in our beetle cabrio sitting in the back - he’s just snuggled in really calm and occasionally looks out the window.

The only thing I do different after installing a drawer in my trunk (added about 22” to the floor) is that I carry my dog in n out of the trunk...I didn’t want him to jump up and down out of the high vehicle. I’ve done a few cross country trips and he’s used to riding in the trunk.
