G500 Ouestion to Owners

Im looking to get a G500 in the near future after my lease ends on another car. How is the ride quality of the G500 can you compare the silence of the ride to a S class. How is the power from the 500 ? How is the overall ride. ?

The G500 is totally different to drive than the S500. The only thing they have in common is the Mercedes logo, engine, and transmission. The G500 has a pretty decent ride, but it has solid axles and no air suspension. It is also much heavier and taller.

The G55 has a VERY stiff ride and is kinda like driving a 6ft tall Lotus Elise. I've heard that it's been improved in the G55 Kompressor, but I don't know for sure.

As you'll see in my sig I've driven all kinds of cars, but I still like the G-Class best. I feel safer and more in control.

If your comparison is with the S Class, you won't like it. It is a truck, not a passenger car. It's very stiff and noisy in comparison; and while the 292HP engine pulls the 5,500 lb vehicle well, it is still a 5,500 lb vehicle with the aerodynamics of Vienna's Hoffburg Palace being moved by 292HP.

Look elsewhere.

I dont expect it to be all that quiet inside but atleast up to par with a navigator or range rover. Sounds good I will have to test drive the G500.

The Navigator especiallyand, also, the RR are MUCH softer rides than the G; but drive it for yourself and see. Take it over a set of railroad tracks and some potholes. You'll feel what I mean.

(20 years in a G, myself. I love them!)

i agree with jimmyg about the G. It still is a wonderful ride, no comparison to any other benz, but the latest G's (I drove an '04 G55) are really worth it. I am very concerned about the way the new G's will look like. I have a Q though, the G's dont come with xenon lamps right?

AMG offers a xenon headlamp upgrade for use outside Europe & the US, but it's expensive. They also offer a winch, interior mods including individual rear seats, DVD player with LCD TV's in headrests, laptop internet connection via GPRS, etc.

Some companies make xenon bulbs which can replace standard H4 headlamps, you'll just have to search the net and see which companies they are and if their available in Saudi.

The G is totally different than an S. One is a car and the other is a truck...and very much a truck. They are great, but not for everyone...

How is the G-class audio system, I was looking and couldnt really find any adaquate info on who makes it. ? The G-class shares alot of C-class interior peaces so im guessing it uses the Bose or Harmon Kardon from the C-class is this true. ?

Its good, I think after using it more it might sound better. I do realize that when you speed up and slow down the volume kind of adjust itself. I dont know maybe im losing but that is what it sounds like.

Overall though it sounds great
