Dealer called and said no more designo Night Black Magno (matte)? WTF

got a call from my dealer stating to pick another color because designo Night Black Magno (matte) is no longer an option....

I find that really hard to believe but wanted to see if any one else has heard of this BS?

dealer response to me asking if this a corporate issue or just their dealer:

Yes it's corporate. It's a Limited availability on that paint.

Wow if that’s true that’s crazy! I got my 21 G63 in that color but I had an Oct 2020 build date. I guess so many people have ordered the truck in this color already they cut it off for 2021’s since it is a limited availability color.

I have a March build date with that color. The dealer already had one configured for that color when I took the allocation in late November. Hopefully, it sticks. What was your build date?

I wonder if your configuration was already entered in or if the dealer went to do it and couldn't.

spoke to my sales rep this am and basically he is stating when he went to enter in my configuration an issue came up with the color. Contacted corporate and they are saying there is a limited availability with magno black and another magno color. My options are to pick another color or skip this quarter order and wait for this next to see if the color becomes available. I don't believe any of this is accurate since my local dealer is stating they've haven't heard of any issues and are still placing and receiving order for magno black.

At this point I'm going to change colors and and check in weekly to see if magno black becomes available. Sales rep said I can make changes until the day the order is lock...

OK. That makes sense since it is limited availability. I confirmed today that my order for an early March build is confirmed even though it has not locked.

Good luck!

A gaggle of MB's
To be helpful - please understand with regards to G-Wagen's - it is Graz/factory that decides when they will not accept changes - which is WELL AHEAD of the NetStar "Yellow-Light" - "Red Light"..

No - Graz will not accept January requests for changes to March production orders - so this particular MB dealer doesn't know sh*t about G's - and he is just just reading to you the NetStar Green-Light/Yellow-Light/Red-Light which for your rig does NOT apply..\

Just because Green/Yellow light tells the dealer he can "enter a change request" - doesn't mean sh*t because Graz won't accept it - comprende !

Let's get to the Magno Black i- if s NOT available for this "April Order" (kind of strange since April allocations/PO acceptance were done 2nd week December) - please understand if Magno Black is not available now - with Graz it will NOT be available for that order PERIOD - "his is not "wait and watch the colored lights" and "hope" there is a cancelation - won't happen - and that/your dealer doesn't know sh*t about G's either.

Look - Graz has been been delivering confirmed order - on schedule - on the money - since June and they are the ONLY factory that not only is back 100% - they have been back at 100%/on-schedule since JUNE - d*mn Impressive.- and puts EVERY MB/Daimler factory factory world-wide to shame..

I ended going with another magno color and dealer said they are getting the same error for my 2nd choice.

They've attached the 2 images.

does this mean the colors are not available or they have no allocation at this time?

OP, here’s what actually happened:

night black magno is a limited color. The factory will only produce a limited number of units painted that color each month. However, night magno is by far the most desirable color (measured by customers wanting to spec that color). This leads to night black magno being limited in supply.

Corporate releases G Class allocations each month. Dealers can then select the color on these allocations. Once enough allocations have a limited color selected, it becomes full and cannot be selected until an existing allocation decides to give up the color.

your dealer was too slow in getting a matte black car. They don’t want to admit that so they gave you some random reason as to why they cannot spec that color. Your options are to give up your current build slot and wait until the next round of allocations and hope that they grab the black magno the moment it’s released, or get another color for your current allocation.

Something similar happened to me when my dealer put the order in. He was confused why his system wouldn't accept the black mango paint. He ended calling corporate, got it to changed, and got my PO issued with the black mango paint. This was towards the end of November and is a Feb 21 build date.

that's what i figured and asked them to skip my allocation if required. Can't see myself with another color and second thinking my decision later.

You won't regret your decision. I have a 2020 G 63 Night Black Magno. IMHO, matt black on the G is like red on a Ferrari. Something about matt black on a G just works.

I have to agree. I have a 20' G63 black Magno and I can't stop staring at it. My 21' G63 arrives in a few months in Arabian Grey. Going to a non-metallic paint from the Magno is making me a bit nervous ha. I haven't seen Arabian grey in the flesh but I am sure it will be amazing. Will be hard selling the black Magno G63.....
