Got the 2005 G500

Hey guys, just picked up the 05 G500, great truck. I got rid of the CL500 for it. What a difference between the two. Streets of NYC can take a beating on a coupe. Anyways if anyone is considering getting the G truck before they change the body style go ahead, its def worth it. Good ride, comfy seats. Great design, just need a few exterior mods but thats it. Added bonus is the park assist (great for an SUV) and new harmon kardon speakers.

Congrats! Hope you will find time to really see what your G can do off-road! I did and it was spectacular to say the least!

Park Assist is great for me too...and the HK sound system is excellent.

For the past week, i was in Colorado for some off-roading (Rocky Mountain NP, Black Canyon, Ouray, & Telluride) . Anyway, the G-wagen was great...the G500 performed flawlessly. The stock Yokohamas were much better than i expected...they were tough enough to withstand sharp rocks!

Take a look at this link to my forum (i used to own a 4runner):

Hope you enjoy your G as much as i do.

No signs of HK anywhere. The only clue is that the HK system has a subwoofer under the rear bench. You can see this small subwoofer by looking under your rear bench on the driver's side. The previous standard system (in '02 and '03) did not have this subwoofer. From what i read, HK system has upgraded speakers and a more powerful amplifier.

Because of my stock tires, i often had to lock the rear locker over Engineer Pass (the more difficult Pass), and sometimes the front too. The stock tires do lack some grip over slippery rocks (i did not air down however). In fact, i have learned not to use traction control (ETS)...i just lock the center diff and click on the rear whenever i need extra traction. ETS is good for snow and on-road stuff. It is NOT very effective off-road. I actually tested ETS vs. lockers on a slippery rock climb. ETS stalled near the top...couldn't get up despite multiple tries. With front and rear locked, my G climbed easily, without any slippage...it was almost too easy!
