Hello, Thanks to MBWorld for being a great resource. I’m a first time G63 buyer and Mercedes buyer. Getting a build slot early 2022 was a dream come true for me and my wife.
We were told the production date is set for June, so the salesman told us to just put something in and we will have plenty of time to make changes to our build (as we were undecided on the interior leather color and exterior paint color choices)
We got a call from the salesman this past weekend asking if we wanted to make any changes as they’re looking to lock the build soon soon. We were expecting a call closer to the June production date. When we asked when we need to finalize our choices, he said we have until next friday. We gave him some edits to the interior that he updated on Saturday and told him we we’re still thinking about the paint color. We hustled to finalize our research and decided to update to a different color than what was originally listed in our build and called the salesman yesterday (Tue) about our change.
When we called, the salesman, took down all our changes but then called back to tell us he can’t make any changes and the build was frozen over the weekend.
long story short, we are now stuck with a color we’re not thrilled about for our dream car. So we wanted to see if any of the gurus on this forum have insights into who to call or what to do to try and get our build unfrozen so we can just change the exterior color? Production date is still estimated for June. The salesman said he will try to call to check as well, but we don’t necessarily know if he knows what to do or who to contact. So we wanted to see if there’s any suggested advice on what we could be trying to do in addition.
Thanks in advance!

You should re- post this on the other G forum W463A that is for the current production model.
Why do you think your changed color choice is going to be the right one for you, if you now think your first choice is wrong?

Are you going to gaslight a man for changing his mind on a car color? So bizarre.Originally Posted by streborx

1. Indecisive people
2. People who use trendy words inappropriately ("gaslighting" - look it up)

FWIW, I will agree in that I hate that term in general, regardless of usage, because it’s a gen z buzzword. So fair play there. Originally Posted by streborx

Your response seemed to encourage him to question his own decision to change his mind. Bizarre response and not conducive to helping him. Your posts have been better lately but at times you seem snarky.

No knowledge about "unfreezing" an order. My guess is in todays world with supply constraints and crazy timeline could be difficult. Not sure MB will stop production on a vehicle because a buyer changed their mind, especially on such high demand vehicle. I'd just be happy with your order on what I'm sure is a spectacular vehicle and am sure your first choice is fine. I'd also be glad if all your options selected are delivered as you planned. So many cars make it to delivery missing ordered options/features. Not easy times for consumers.

So you think I'm being snarky? Well, no argument there.Originally Posted by PeriodCorrect

IMHO, 99.99% of what makes a G-Wagen a G-Wagen is everything that's beneath the paint. My G is "ultimate boring Selenite Gray over uninspired Black Nappa", but I don't love it any less than if it was coated with one of the premium paint finishes and upholstered in 2-tone diamond stitch.
My advice for the OP? Don't lose sleep over your build spec. After you've pushed the pedal to the floor for the first time, the color (if you remember what it is) will seem irrelevant.

It’s done. I always tell people on this forum have your first spec be the right spec because it locks without warning.
Instead of focusing energy on something that won’t happen, my advice is to either accept the color you chose initially (at some point you wanted that color right?) or research somebody to wrap it to the color you want.
Third option is see if the dealer is fine selling it as a spec car and move you back into line somewhere.

What color did you get and what color do you want? I also am doubting my choices as well. I ordered mine with night package plus and China Blue. Now I'm thinking maybe just matte olive or black lmao Originally Posted by PeteyS

Hope you're not questioning the night package -- unless you're a chrome lover, you'll regret not keeping it -- the blacked out bull bar and darkened headlights alone make it worth the cost. Trying to night-package a G afterwards will break the bank.Originally Posted by Bullishness

China Blue? A popular choice, but maybe not for everyone. I saw one in a dealer 's showroom 3 weeks ago, and I have to say it is striking -- a real eye-catcher. But if you prefer the "stealthy" look, you'll be happier with a toned-down black, gray or olive.
I selected Emerald Metallic but wanted to change to Olive Metallic or Dark Olive Magno. After doing more research on the appearance of the paints in different lighting, we preferred a slightly more muted tone instead of the jewel tone. The salesman told us Olive was a much longer lead time anyway so apparently, we wouldn't have been able to select it, even if they let us.
@ Streborx no question the vehicle itself is what makes the G-Wagon special
@Hodog16, that's good advice, wish our salesman would have told us that, he told us we had plenty of time, not that we needed more than a few days, but had no idea it would move that quickly, it got locked on Sunday and it was supposedly dipped in paint as of Wednesday.
@PeriodCorrect thanks for the chiming in, wasn't quite sure how to respond to the reply to my first post on the forum

No no, definitely keeping night package. But was thinking maybe having a "stealthier" look... I currently drive an Alien Green G63.Originally Posted by streborx

Also wanted to ask current W463A owners. Are the carbon fiber interior package worth it? Looks like its just door panel and that sliding piece for cup holders. Seems like a little for $3700..

PeteyS: I believe magno is under constraint for 2022 anyway? I agree the olive metallic is nice--I may end up choosing that one for my next allocation, but I think the G looks great in any green.
Bullishness: Most people love carbon fiber but I'm not a huge fan. I prefer the matte wood look. Most people go all out and get the package to get the carbon fiber steering wheel.
It actually covers quite a bit of trim - door panels, center console, grab bar (if non G manufaktur color) and that long piece under the dash.

If you ask the salesman to thaw the build, then you should be able to change the color.
