2015 G550 driver seat bottom HORRIBLE

Hey everyone,

after 6-7 months of owning my 2015 G550 with 56000 miles, i have found the seat bottom is horribly uncomfortable. The seat back for me is OK. All 4 orthopedic air bag controls in the seat work. But the seat bottom i cant really adjust. I have read that this is very common, but there has to be some fix to this without having to install aftermarket seats. I was thinking, new seat bottom foam cushions? Or maybe ADDING more foam to the pad? There has to be some fix to this. I love the G and have owned quite a few, but I always forget how uncomfortable the seats are lol. Thanks for any advice!

I've tried to find an answer to this and have not found much. My 2005 seat is probably even less comfortable.

I plan to remove the rear seat cushion and try to make it more comfortable. Also need to raise the front of the seat more than the adjustment allows so you can get actually get some support under the thighs.

Lots of people have replaced with Recaro Classics or seats from Scheel-mann and are very happy with the results. There have also been retrofits of other model MB seats, but those are very custom retrofits.

Yeah. It sucks in my 2011 also. Think they’re the same seats as yours.

I am on my second Amazon seat cushion, haven’t liked either one. Going to research some more and try again.

if that fails, I’ll reach out to an auto upholsterer and see if they can remove the leather and add some comfortable foam to the seat bottom. Would likely be worth the $3-500 it may cost.

Maybe we try these? Would likely hinder cooling and heating function though.

I’ll be going to my upholsterer in the week or so and report back with what he says. Mine has the heated and cooled seats. So ideally will see if he can add padding without blocking the cooling or heating pads.

You can apparently still buy new OEM seat cushions for ~$300.

I'm going to try to remove the seat covers and steam the foam to get some more life out of it. I may also try to add a thin layer of memory foam to add some padding.

Let us know what your upholsterer says. Thanks!

This place is a joke.
Wait until you smack your elbow into the rock hard door panel 🤬 you'll forget all about the seat cushion.

Shiann, I just ordered the seat bottom cushion from Mercedes ($330). Arrives next week. I will be taking a bunch of pictures from this process and posting here. My upholster says it’s common with 463’s from 2013-2018. The foam in the centers get worn out and the sides start to widen and flatten. You notice it especially when looking at the seat bottoms. My driver side seat bottom looks flat and sad. Whereas my passenger side, which has seen minimal use is looking factory fresh. Each cushion part is defined and firm and my driver side is not. Also, depending on how the foam looks, I maybe adding foam padding where it’s needed. Anyway, i will be posting pictures of this next week.

Looking forward to what you find! I haven't done anything to mine except sit in it so any real findings on the matter will be a nice improvement.

I found this and this seems to also address the issues… adding padding/rags to the seat bottom does wonders. Im guessing the cushion i bought was probably useless and adding padding will fix the problem.

The new seat padding came in. Looks very different from the video link I posted. This new pad I ordered has a honey comb type cushion. Seems very sturdy. Feels like my passenger side seat thats seen very little use. Will post the completed project and if it worked.

Got it installed and have to say it is night and day different installing the new cushion pad. However, it’s going back to the upholsterer. The bottom cushion air bag function is not inflating and the ventilator is not working because there are two seat pads installed that are blocking air flow. Also my upholsterer’s seat padding is not the same as the OEM stuff. So it’s going back to fix those items and then change the padding out for OEM stuff. Keep you posted.
