G500 Steering wheel upgrade controle problems
Good afternoon,
I bought a 2019 steering wheel for my 2005 G500 to update my interior. I've done quite a bit of research on this to make it work but getting the controls to work is the only problem that remains.
I need to get the the controls of the new steering wheel to work so that I can access my on-board computer.
There are a few companies I found that sell adapters that are programmed to translate the new buttons to the existing functions but there are different problems with each of them.
The reason why I think this should work is because of this video.
These guys have the same model car and the same model steering wheel. They also connect the chip that convert the controls and it works fine.
1. https://dolcar-msk.ru/ They say they can supply a working chip but they have problems with receiving foreign payments and exporting goods out of Russia at the moment.
2. https://mb-link.com/ Sells these type of solutions but says it will work on a 2007 and up but not a 2005.
3. https://www.realcarbontastic.com/ Spoke to the company from the video. Say that they can send the chip but it will cost $500+shipping from US.
4. Spoke to a local company in NL that does programming and software on cars. Says he can make it work. Costs €875,- ex. VAT
5. Aliexpress Found a supplier that sells these chips but says it will not work on a 2005.
In the last case I said to the seller I was willing to try at my own risk. Installed it today and, indeed, doesn't work. I had hope because the input wires are also red, white and black just like the wires from the old wheel so from the hardware side it looked hopefull.
Does anyone have experience with this? Is there a product somewhere that doesn't cost a fortune to make this work.
For me operating the on-board menu is the first step that has to work before I start converting the complete steering wheel. Making it fit and audio controles for my Kenwood are less of a worry (they don't work at the moment anyway).
Thanks a lot!
Regards, Niek.

I've seen the video you posted. They are using an aftermarket wheel. While not OEM, it looks good and they have to design them to work on a Mercedes. Probably not what you want to hear but you might want to sell the 2019 wheel and go with an aftermarket one.

Please post pictures of the wheel without the airbag. Good pictures. Need to see the color of the connectors from buttons to module and the module itself.

Also there's this instruction video that I followed up
I know I need to shave the back side of the new wheel. But first I want to know the controls will work. After that I will make permanent modifications.

The red, black and white I connected to the red, black and white from the adapter I disconnected from the steering wheel.

Looks to me like the use a OEM wheel and re upholster it or stick some carbon over it + some amg badges. As mentioned I also contacted them and they can send the chip I need for 500USD+ shipping. which is twice what I payed for the wheel itself.
