front passanger door lock wont open or close automatically

so i can pull the door lock open and push it closed and it works perfectly fine but the door wont automatically open and close with both the key and unlock/lock buttons.

i can hear the mechanism activating when i hit the button on the key so i dont think its the actuator but wondering if anyone has had any experience with this and if i should either just buy a new actuator or try and fix the existing actuator.

the onlly real way to know is to open up the door panel, but it does sound like your actuator is getting too weak to both unlock the door and push up the lock button.

The lock button is connected via a linkage/rod to the door lock machanism, which you can physically move. The locking actuator is then connected to that same assembly.

is the actuator getting weak the reason these things go?

and by the way, my door isnt doing either. its not unlocking or locking with the key or button inside the car. i can only manually open it and close it.

I would open up the door and take a look at what is going on. It could be as simple as the central lock linkage from the motor to the lock came off.

I only have earlier year manuals, heres from a 2010 manual.

Looks like Part 2 goes to the manual lock pull, Part 4 goes down to the motor/actuator.

I've been told that both the door actuators and the window regulators are failure-prone on these vehicles. I had a window regulator fail at only 18k miles (but fortunately no door actuator failures yet). Best of luck w/ your repair

I have had the same issue with back door. In my case the locking mechanism was not lubricated well enough. I have disassembled the door panel and cleaned and lubricated the locking mechanism. After that it all worked again.
