Am I a douche?
So I was furious when the dealer asked me for market factor adjustment on my 2021G 550 that I had waited a year for. Made a big stink. Got it finally at MSRP. I felt that a deal was a deal and they were changing it on me. I trusted them to deliver and passed on other opportunities to buy in stock G Wagons also a good prices.
But my situation has now changed and after enjoying the vehicle for just three months, I need to sell it. What great timing, I can get significant profit due to current market factors. Don’t feel like I’m screwing the next guy because I had no pre-existing arrangements to deliver at any price.
Beautiful obsidian black with chrome brush guard AMG option 20” wheels comfort seats heated steering wheel, just 1400 miles. I see these listed for 200 K – 220 K. Money is money. But I don’t wish to be unethical. Even worse, I don’t want to be stupid. What is the right thing to do? Just grow a pair and take the profit??

Play the game with the dealer. Let him sell it, split the profit with the understanding that he’ll get you another in 2023 or whenever.

Agree with this. I’d approach the dealer about selling it on consignment. You’ll both make money, plus they will screen out the tire kickers and be responsible for making sure you get your money. Plus it will build goodwill with the dealer for getting your next G.
Also didn’t your dealer make you sign a no resale agreement for 6 months?

I sure hope you grew a pair and took the profit, without further thought. I wouldn’t think twice, you waited for the vehicle- a new buyer will not need to wait, therefore for your own peace of mind, the price increase (profit) is justified. I wouldn’t even consider any factors other than current market value. Would you sell your house for less just bc you fought tooth and nail the original deal? Probably not Consider yourself lucky with good timing and the transaction itself, from an investment perspective.
You also didn’t mention how you were going to sell it. I don’t know your original purchase terms, but I would have listed on my own and not given the dealer a cut.
Had I saw this list from the beginning, I would have bought it!
How did the sale turn out? private or via dealer? Hope all good!

Thank for the comments all. I had no issue taking profit for myself instead of the dealer given my bad experience. But I did not want to screw the next guy. The consensus here is that the market is what it is, and I agree and decided to put the G 550 up for sale - on my own.
I put it on this forum and also listed it on Cargurus at a high price ($205) a few months ago. Did not get any serious inquiries so I reduced the price. It is now listed at $189K and still no inquiries. So maybe the market has disappeared as suggested in other threads on this forum and profit was never in the cards for me!
Somebody mentioned selling via consignment through a dealer - good concept; I spoke with two dealers, and they only wish to buy well below market and resell - neither of these MB dealers would do consignment.
Just drove the G today and love it so I will not entertain low balling dealers until my deadline to sell early Q4. Less than 1800 miles and perfect - somebody will ultimately get a nice vehicle, probably at a fair price!

True, plus market dynamics is changing, if a recession occurs it will impact demand and ultimately prices of luxury items. Even those that can spend aren't as likely to shell out big $$$ for a depreciating asset.
