”As far as the interior goes, a redesigned center console will feature the acclaimed MBUX infotainment system, especially since the G-Wagen was the last current Mercedes-Benz model not to have it.

In preparation for the EQG, which is expected in 2024 as the first production electric G-Class, the entire engine lineup for next year’s G facelift is expected to offer some type of electrification, including the AMG version(s).

On the diesel side, the European version will benefit from a mild-hybrid 48-volt system on the G 350d and G 400d, with the so-called EQ-Boost bringing in an extra 22 PS and 250 Nm (184 lb-ft) of torque to supplement the inline-six.

A similar mild-hybrid system will augment the G 500, which is also expected to switch from the 4.0-liter V8 to a 3.0-liter inline-six to mirror the latest S-Class W223 lineup.

On the AMG front, the mighty G 63 should get the 612 PS (604 HP) version of 4.0-liter V8, supplemented by the aforementioned 22-PS EQ-Boost system, but it should be eventually accompanied by a G 63 E-Performance.”

Hmmm, if the interior is updated I might text my sales women and see if I can get an allocation for 2024.

How is this official? Just them guessing. What logical reason would Mercedes have to change the powertrain on the gas G's for one model year when the EQG will be offered a year later?...
It will get MBUX, a redone interior and they will call it a day until the EQG is released.

G and EQG will be sold simultaneously so it makes sense to update G at some point.

MBUX coming is exciting so we can stop seeing a million threads about it. Don’t really care about the interface.

This is what I was expecting would happen. Light hybrid for MY 2023 and then the full electric G offered along side the hybrid version for 2024. If you want a full ICE car (which I think the G wagon suits well), better get one now. 2022's are still ICE. For me personally, I prefer either full gas or full electric. The surprising comment in the article was about the G500 (G550 in the USA) will be a V6 vs a V8. It does make sense though because you can still get the G63 if you want the V8. Times are changing... not sure I like it but full electric will probably be cool (I hope).

Considering the new SL doesn't have any hybrid features I don't know why you think the facelift will be hybrid.

I saw that headline. I'm actually researching getting an Ioniq 5 for my daily driver - longest commute is 40 miles so don't need to worry about range anxiety.

I think I'm the only person in the country with a deposit down for an Ioniq 5 and a G63.

The new SL is being launched as a MY 2022 I believe. The light hybrid is probably not quite developed yet. I am talking about 2023 MY G-Class which would probably be launched sometime next year. As for where I get the idea from, there have been several automotive journalists that have said the facelift G-Glass will have a light hybrid (an example is the article from this week that is in this thread). My dealer is also telling me that the G-Glass will get an electric "boost" very soon (did not confirm MY) but said probably 2023. Please take my prediction as just that - I am not pretending to present 100% fact here. It does seem like most auto manufacturers are going this route before going full electric. Adding a little electric power to supplement a gas engine allows for lower MPG (which people want) and potentially more power (which people also want). Again, I'm just not sure I personally want that in a G-Class. Some will want that. Mercedes also needs to hit a certain fleet MPG rating so there is pressure go this route. We'll see. Use this as just a data point to form your own opinion.

Does anybody actually expect the EQG to be produced and delivered in 2024? It seems like most auto makers are running way behind schedule with the chip shortage.

They are planning the EQG to have the new Sila battery tech by 2025 so maybe not in 2024, but I have a deposit on the first one so a year wait is fine by me.

IMHO, car manufacturers are pushing battery capacity beyond safe limits in order to maximize range. I parked in a downtown car ramp last week that had a sign posted at the entry restricting use by certain EVs. I plan to keep my FF truck.

the electric car industry went in a different direction trying to pursue full 'autopilot'. what a major chunk of the transportation industry would have benefitted (probably will) from is a marriage of AI and the technology (supercharger and electric vehicles)..the vehicle should have the 'intelligence' to automatically charge itself by finding a charging station when it's battery power falls below a certain threshold; that coupled with the 'summon' feature would allow multiple people (personal or business needs) to always use the vehicle 24x7, unlike today where cars are parked either in garages or in homes when not in use and require a driver at all times. (the superchargers and features like summon are what keep tesla ahead of the comp) this would actually translate to less production (fewer cars) , less carbon footprint, less raw materials, blah, blah, blah.
but for now all i want is that squared backpack from the EQG to retrofit to my 63.

Just be prepared to wait a while (look at Tesla CT and continuous delays) and I would think it should have a 500 mile range with a high price tag. I asked my SA if people are placing orders for it and he said that they won't take orders for a car that is not even in production yet and no defined allocation at this point.

I have no problem waiting and paying, and I would not compare Tesla with Mercedes so I fully expect that it will be released as a 2024, or 2025 model at the latest.
