Stop Sale at VPC

There's confusion over the status of the software update also. The NHTSA website states that for my vehicle, "Remedy not yet available". Yet in a post above (#61), the owner says he thinks the dealer installed it when he was recently in for service (note to Ftedd - check your dealer service invoice and/or the NHTSA website - both should report the recall completed if the dealer installed it. And let us know if your Mercedes-Me update attempt works). I have my G scheduled for diff locks and safety lock labels next month (long story why this hasn't been done already), and I'll ask about 21V058 then.

After reading about the holds at VPCs in the US, my G63 is on a ship and is due to be invoiced to my dealer on March 26. I will find out this week if these holds apply to Canadian orders as well....

Just received this recall notice today from MBUSA, which states a remedy is available and will be implemented via "over-the-air" (but it doesn't say when). Guess I'd better start parking outside (I have a metal roof).

Do you have a 20, or 21? I also have a metal shingle roof. I called Mercedes yesterday, my 21 G 63 isn’t affected.

Mine's a 2019. It's gotta be killing MB having to let customers know they have wireless comm with every MB that's driving around. Every time your Lane Keep Assist kicks in, MB knows about it. Between law enforcement's license plate scanners and MB's wireless data collection eavesdropping, it's just no fun driving anywhere anymore. Pretty sure my mother's behind all this (LOL).

According to information posted on NHTSA's website, MY2021s aren't affected by this recall (21V058). Whatever the issue, it involves bureaucracy and several shipping containers of red tape. If it does involve some other NHTSA safety recall, one of the rules is that affected vehicles must be transported to an NHTSA certified facility for the recall work to be done before they can be officially imported (and hauled to dealerships). Judging from all the recalls being issued for imports (MB, BMW, Volvo, etc.) there could be a waiting line for such a certified facility. Really too bad MBUSA thinks good customer relations is impounding cars that customers have been waiting months/years for, and telling them to buzz off.

Recall TC 2021-064 is the same as NHTSA's 21V058. Interestingly, TC's 2021-064 applies to 2021 G's while 21V058 does not. Can this become any more confusing? It would seem one of either TC or NHTSA is in error.

Transport Canada, Canada's equivalent of the U.S. NHTSA, lists 7 safety recalls for 2019 - 2021 G class vehicles (https://wwwapps.tc.gc.ca/Saf-Sec-Sur...0Systems&all=0)

The defective software is in all W463A cars including 2021. They are all running the same software version and OTA updates regardless what MBUSA told you. The OTA update has not been released for 2019 and newer vehicles yet but it is about to hit the airwaves any day now as noted in the recall letter received yesterday. Expect the cars to be released from VPC shortly after that update hits the airwaves. Should be any day now.

Whatever the problem is, it's likely being aggravated by the traffic jam of cargo container ships. I've read that the west coast is a disaster right now - ships parked off-shore waiting to dock (filled with all that high quality stuff from China), and space to stack containers on-shore disappearing.

I stopped by my dealer today and was talking to my salesman about the VPC issue. He told me that every G wagon (G550 & G63's) are all sitting there at the ports and its not because of a software update since its a minor issue for MB. He told me that cars were loaded on trucks and invoiced to the dealer who paid for them and all of a sudden overnight the dealers were refunded the money and trucks unloaded. In his opinion, there must be a bigger reason, perhaps something mechanical. The reason code that he recalls seeing was "D43" which he has no idea what it is for which was then removed the following day. He's been a MB salesman for over 20 years and in all these years he only saw this happen once before. It was when the S class was introduced and all of the cars coming to the US had defective tie rods which needed to be changed out at the port prior to going to dealerships. So, in his opinion, it has to be a major issue for them to hold all the cars back.
Who knows what the real reason is, but eventually it will come out.

Any updates received on hold? Wagen has been idle in Brunswick for 2 weeks now. Talk about a freaking tease. Jealous of all who got theirs right before the hold up. Luck just wasnt on our side for this one.
