Trickle charger recommendations
Hi! I’m a travel nurse and leave my ‘21 550 at home in NY which also gets brutally cold and I noticed the battery was low and was never told about putting a charger on it while I’m out of town 🤦🏼♀️ Can anyone recommend which charger I should buy? Should I leave it on the charger all the time even if I’m home? Thanks!

This is what I’m using, when I’m not using my G 63, I leave it on, it goes into float mode. You can purchase it from Amazon or EBAY, it’s not expensive, but works well.

If you keep your G parked in your garage that's heated at ~40F you should be OK for a week. If your schedule is unpredictable with longer absences, a battery maintainer as the above posts suggest is cheap insurance. You can find these devices at auto stores for less than $30.

Thank you so much everyone for the suggestions! I don’t have a heated garage so it def can get very cold inside. I’m kind of nervous about having to do this but my schedule is all over the place and I could be gone for a couple weeks or several months at a time. Does anyone know is there a feature on the app that would alert me about the battery? I only happened to glance at the app when I noticed the battery was critical if I didn’t look I never would have known!

They make chargers for several high-end auto brands. The companies slap their logo on it and jack up the price.
They make the “official” chargers for: Audi, Bentley, BMW, Cadillac, Corvette, Ferrari, Ford, Jaguar, Maserati, McLaren, Mercedes, Porsche, and Rolls-Royce.
They sell a “polar” edition meant for extreme cold weather.

Mercedes Me does have a low battery alert, mine was going off regularly even after a long drive. Turned out my battery was faulty and was replaced under warranty. I use the OEM battery maintainer which is made by CTEK.

I have the factory charger from my Porsche, it plugged into the cigarette lighter port.

Also available are thermal blankets to wrap your battery, such as https://www.oreillyauto.com/detail/c...r/zro0/2800063. Not the easiest to install with the G's battery being underneath the cargo floor, but worth it if you're in single digit temp territory.

year, my wife’s 2018 E Class had battery replaced under warranty due to lack of use during pandemic. So, I now use Mercedes’ branded trickle chargers on both her car and our G 63. Yes, Mercedes chargers are more expensive, but who are you going to blame if other branded chargers fail? Cheap insurance for a 6 figure vehicle.

The only time I got a battery alert was right after delivery and it sat at the PPF installer for a week. They put it on a charger and it’s been fine since.
The app did alert me about the low battery like it does if you forget to lock the doors.

i gave the blanket, backpack and flashlight back. The jacket is kind of like a Nano Puff Patagonia or Northface Theroball with the Mercedes logo on it.

I guess I never let the battery get low enough to receive the low battery warning. It sat at VPC for 5 weeks waiting for EPA certification. The dealership might have charged the battery during the PDI. I have seen the low battery warning on my Porsche.

LoL, they originally gave me a backpack, blanket and flashlight, I said, I would rather have a jacket. They ordered the jacket and I told them, I don’t want a windbreaker. The backpack, flashlight and blanket all had the Mercedes logo on it. They also gave me a Mercedes coffee mug as well.
