As others have said, you dont want to be the one standing with no chair to sit on once the music stops.
Prices for virtually every good has increased like crazy due to the high price of resources/supply chain issues/labour shortages specially in transportation and docks/governments printing money like crazy currently/a lot crypto and social media make pretend wealth floating around are all contributing to inflated prices for everything. Now granted this car had a waitlist even before all this craziness began but not too long ago it was very simple to negotiate a discount specially if it was sitting on the lot.
Im awaiting my allocation at MSRP, it will likely be a 23 and out of principle I wont pay a cent over MSRP. Others can disagree but I see people paying anywhere from $10k-$75k over sticker for this car and it just makes me laugh given all it would take is to have a year or 2 of patience. Even getting it at MSRP bugs me a little given the history I have with my dealership but cant change the demand for it. Will be interesting to see what those people will do with their car/watch/house that they paid 2x over retail for once normality resumes...

Well said and couldn't agree more. The rare cars / watches and houses on lots with limited supply will likely slow down the increases we are seeing but I see them holding value. Limited production APs / PPs / Rolex / RM will still see increased demand but I'm sure the prices will normalize substantially. The main thing to remember is this is still a mass produced Mercedes. It is not a 1 of 499 Ferrari.

Something is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it. I bought my first G (2016 G63) for 25k off, second two at MSRP (4x4 and E1).
Your tethering to MSRP is silly because now we are saying 75-100 over sticker …. What if the MSRP on 23s is 75-100 higher than 21? Then everyone paid MSRP!
So again, there is money and demand and that’s where these prices come from. If that persists, so will these values. But if it doesn’t, they will fall. Just like anything else.
And for the record, ever since I bought my E1 I have had offers from my dealer and secondary dealers to buy it from me, always at or above MSRP, so the demand for the new G wagon has always been extreme and yes, it’s been exacerbated by current conditions, but it was always an over MSRP truck since 2019.

Are you serious?
This forum is filled with people desperate to find an allocation at any price. And then there are tons more willing to pay whatever it takes to get one when they’re told they can. So magically, you think in a year when 23s theoretically should start getting delivered, that the demand will abate and dealers will drop ADM? You are just fooling yourself. The year off will only COMPOUND THE PROBLEM with all the people who don’t know about this issue but saunter into a dealer for a new G and learn about the issue and get into the mix.
It is delusional to think the current situation abates after a year of compounding demand.
I bet you don’t get broad-based MSRP pricing until 2025.

I bet you a portion of those "people" that are saying they spend silly money over MSRP for a G are actually dealers drumming up the price and creating demand. Don't think for a second they are honest.

That being said they wont take your order unless you have significant purchase history and I will have to wait 1.5 years (a little longer now with the V8 delays) but at least I'll be getting it at MSRP.
I have the patience instead of getting the car RIGHT NOW for whatever stupid ADM people are charging. Not sure who tricked you into thinking this will last forever, these same people will be massively in the hole with a mass produced depreciating asset that they over paid for.
And this is coming from someone who loves the G and am very excited for it.

I just saw where Austria will be locked down starting Monday due to COVID for approximately 20 days. Wondering if that will impact the last month of US production for the G.

I'm not certain of this, but I think most all of the last Gs are pretty much built. At least the ones for the US. Ours was a Dec build allocation that got moved up and is now on a boat on the way over. Should be at the Georgia port sometime next week, and we were told it was one of the last ones being built for the US. Again, not totally sure that is accurate, but it's what we were told.

Its unlikely it will return....the USA is about the only developed country where the more than just the wealthiest members of public public can afford to run a V8 due to your countries cheap fuel. Petrol in the UK today is ££6.72 per gallon...so that's $9.04 at todays exchange rate!!......which is why you can drive for hours here and not see a V8!!! Add to that the fact that things like COP26 are putting car makers under more pressure than ever to reduce overall emissions from their whole range and it gets worse. And then of course you have to new four cylinder turbo engines than can produce more power and torque than a 63 engine and at the same time being cheaper to run, cheaper to build and easier to fit in smaller cars......the future for V8s built outside the US is not looking great. When you have EVs like the Lucid developing over 1000 horses with a 500 mile range the case for big inch petrol motors just gets worse. I would love to be wrong.....but I cant see it....
Stop believing salesman and dealerships that will lie and say the V8 is extinct so they can perpetuate these ridiculous ADM's... If Mercedes was truly done with the V8's then why the heck would they be releasing the new SL in two V8 configurations? Also the new S class with its current V8 also says hi...

As I said I hope you are right....a four pot hybrid is going in the AMG C and then the Es to replace their V8s....so its only a matter of time before it finds its way into the rest of the range to keep the bunny huggers happy!

Don't buy the hype, inventory is highest than it has ever been with 707 modern 2019-2021 G63s for sale on Autotrader as of this morning. This is the highest number I have seen since the 2019 was introduced and since the G63 was introduced in 2013 and has steadily risen from approximately 400 at the end of August so at the current crazy prices, supply is definitely higher than demand and more G63s are piling on every day at dealer lots. Per my dealer, MB is introducing the new 2023 G63 with MBUX very early in 2022 and will be starting the lengthy US certification process immediately. He expects the new 2023 cars to start arriving into the US by mid to late summer and he was informed the V8 G63 will continue to be produced. The 2021s will continue to be produced at full production capacity until 12/31/2021 and will continue to arrive into the US until mid February. Then they will shutdown the factory briefly for retooling and certification of the 2023. So yes there will be an approximate 6 month hiatus while the updated G63 is prepared and certified.

To be helpful.... and I don't have a dog in this hunt...
1. Production levels for all Auto Manufacturers are desperately Low due to disruption of the Supply Chain for MATERIALS - steel, plastic, glass, electronic displays, etc
2. "Chip Shortage" with Car Manufacturers largely/mostly have to do with "control/feature chips" in the same range of what goes into a coffee maker - indiv features like Wireless Charging, Massage/Multi-Contour seats controls, etc.
3. Misinformed but "kind-off trueish"/some-parts" : "..the V8 will be back for the G (not exactly accurate, but "close) He also said it will be sold alongside the electric/hybrid so ppl will have a choice (misinformed - there is a difference between Future All-Electric, which will be true - and "Hybrid" - kindof think of AMG upgrade for Petrol w/150hp pancake e-motor combo) The factory in Graz will be going through upgrades to build the 2024 electric G and they are planning MBUX for 2023 (actually transitioning to Petrol/Pancake at this moment) That coupled with the current chip shortage has given us the current V8 delays (not true, chips isn't it - it's the Direction to "leap" ahead with "AMG") for North America (not true, its another slate of decisions).
Look a bit this way - S-Class Luxury V8 continues production because Electric-EQS is "ready-now" (EQS580 "almost ready")
Dealer wise - moving to Electric means serious commitment to Training/Infra-Structure - so Petrol/Pancake AMG "upgrade" - followed by future Electric models - that's kindof the MB Path
MB's objective is to "Leap" - they probably will jitter/left-right - but at least it is a strategic path and we go thru this Transition !
