Windshield protection film and radar
I had my 2019 front windshield recently covered with Dynoflex protection film. It appears that it blocks my Uniden R7, as most of all read in from the sides and rear. There are sometimes front hits, but weak. I usually do not speed, especially in this car, so it's not a big deal. I thought I let people know as this may affect your decision.

Good to know but I think the windshield has a coating on it from factory that blocks most electromagnetic signals. That's why there's that small square patch on the upper section of the windshield for transponders.

Where do you run your radar detector? I tried to use suction cups for the V1 but it kept falling, so I actually use the visor clip now on the passenger visor and it sits right behind the cut out JW001 is referencing.
I need to put the windshield protection film on, but when I had exoshield on my last it didn't seem to affect the radar very much.

Gents, so I did a bit more research and found out that there is indeed a square cut out on the top center right of the rear view mirror for transponders, etc. When placing the radar detector here I was able to get better readings from the Uniden R7 through the Dynoplex windshield film. I can't say that it doesn't negatively affect the radar, but it did improve front readings. Unfortunately I didn't check this location as I was following CA windshield mounting rules.

I have a 2020 G 63 with ClearPlex protective film on the windshield. I put my Valentine One radar detector on top of the small speaker that's on top of the dashboard driver's side, and it works great. I use double-sided Velcro tape to hold the radar detector in place, and it doesn't seem to change the sound coming from that speaker. I like this location because it doesn't block my vision at all, and it's easy to reach the mute button.

Curious...why factory film to block the signals? Thanks for answering.

Stone cracked my windscreen on first drive. Googling, seems like a lot of 2019> cars are getting cracked wind screens. Insurance company says "we're getting a lot of these". Did MBZ accidentally order the windshields in not quite thick enough glass for vertical use? I've had W463s and countless defenders, hit by plenty of stones, never cracked the glass. Will exoshield really save the glass if I put that on the new one?
BTW, what is the designation of these? W46X?

They are W463A.
Exoshield is not invincible, but on my 2021 it saved my windshield at least 3 times with rocks -- chipped the exoshield but windshield was fine.
For my 2022, since it's no longer a daily driver I haven't put anything on the windshield yet (although I bought that Clearplex DIY kit), but will not take it on the highway and hope that's good enough.

I have clearplex on mine and think that it did save my windshield from a trailer trailer going slipping too far into the side of the road on the highway and kicking up large pebbles. One managed to cause a 2mm gouch in the clearplex but the glass was fortunately fine. For my next vehicle, I plan to go with Dynoflex. It's suppose to be twice as thick as clearplex and have self healing capabilities as well

Dynoflex, gonna check that out. FYI all, the invoice (Beverly Hills MBZ) was $4,800 to replace the windscreen. They said they use some $40K machine to mount/align it. It isn't perfect, the passenger side is not quite flush with the body of the windshield frame, and you can see the glue in the channel along the drivers side edge of the windshield. Boo.

This is what I'm using on mine, it doesn't block my radar detector. Its clearplex film, but as a DIY kit, and I was surprised how easy it was to install, I was sure I was going to screw it up: https://www.grab-gard.com/products/m...s-2019-present

It looks that way, but it's actually going up to the headliner, to the passenger A-pillar, and down to the passenger's footwell compartment, which is met up with a multi-cigarette adapter that is hardwired back to the passenger rear seat fuse box. I did the work myself after reading and viewing all the pics across the forums.
