I am currently on the waitlist for a G550 with my dealer. I am told that I would likely get an allocation in the Fall, with expected delivery early next year. I am also given the option of buying an inbound vehicle that was specced by somebody else (the buyer backed out at the last minute). The vehicle is Polar White. Typically, white would not be my color of choice. However, I don't mind the way it looks on the G Wagon, especially with the night package (which the car I'm being offered also has). Plus, getting the car right now as opposed to waiting another year is tempting. Given the various supply uncertainties, who knows what's going to happen a year from now.

There aren't many white second generation G Wagons around here. The ones I've seen may or may not have been Diamond White (as opposed to Polar White). For those of you with Polar White, are you happy with your choice? Does the color look "milky" in real life? Or does it have off white hues?

 

I have polar white on my ‘21 G and love it! Really pops with the night package. Although I am changing things up on the incoming ‘23 model and went with Deep Green. 😀

 

How long are you planning on keeping it? If awhile I’d be tempted to have it done perfectly to spec even if it means waiting. It’s a lot of money to just take what you don’t want?

I do think the polar white looks great with night package.

However, if you are like a lot of us and are already thinking about a 2024 before the 2023 arrives (lol), then just take it and enjoy it.

I had a similar situation where I was next in line but somebody backed out of a 2022 that was black/red. Worked out perfectly because the same week I agreed to take the 2022, I got a call from another dealer for a 2023 allocation. I do like the black but it’s a pain to keep clean.

 

I do plan to keep it for a long time. My main concern is not the wait itself but whether the car that I want will be even be available a year from now. it seems like there is a distinct possibility that they will replace the V8 engine in the 550 with an I6 or I6 hybrid like they are doing with the S-class. There's also the possibility of further supply shortages and productions pauses like in 2022.

 

Doesn’t hurt to just get it now and then trade it in when you get an allocation for a custom order! Worst case you break even on it…

 

That’s my train of thought too—enjoy this one but plan for another and see how the trade value is?

If you take this one I imagine you will go to the back of the line. How long would it be before you get another allocation?

 

I have polar white on my G550. I originally ordered diamond white but it was discontinued for the 2022 model year so my order defaulted to polar white. It is a very bright white that really pops. I don’t think you will be disappointed.

 

Polar white is very white. I'd almost say stark white. Looks great when paired with the night package. We went with Diamond white because my wife wanted Champagne accents on the truck, but if were going to go night package the polar is the way to go.

I am happy with Polar White. It's very white when washed. Looks great on the G.
That said, it's not a "special" color.

 

No way! The G will have a V8 for a long long time.
