Is the G shortage over?
I'm not sure if the situation is different south of the border, but it seems that there is no shortage of G-wagons on dealer lots in Canada. MB's dealer inventory tool shows 41 cars available for sale at the moment, which is not an insignificant amount considering that MB only sells around 1,000 G's here annually. Most are being sold without mark-ups.
A year ago, you could not get a dealer to put your name on a list. Those who could get on a list were being quoted a 2 year wait for the G550 and 3-4 years for the G63.

In the US there are currently less than 650 modern G63s for sale (new and used 2019 - 2023 excluding 4X4 squared). That is the lowest inventory since the shortage started in late 2020 when there were over 700 G63s available reaching a high of over 1000 G63s by mid 2022. So in the US right now we have the lowest G63 inventory since the 2019 was introduced. Shortage definitely not over!

The only way to know for sure is to call. I'd bet the vast majority of those 41 are spoken for. 23's are just starting to hit the ground.

I contacted a couple of dealers and they all indicated that the cars were available. They also advertise the same cars on auto trader. If it's some kind of a ploy, then to what end? Why advertise cars on autoloader if they are not for sale?

BTW, selling over MSRP is illegal in Ontario, at least. Just confirmed this.

I want to upgrade my 15 to the 19 up body and interior, but i will wait a while. prices will def be dropping!https://youtu.be/1X2_e7f7ocQ
2019+ G63 inventory in the US has dropped 40% since that video to record low available cars for sale and prices have shot up significantly again. For the foreseeable future the G class has literally replaced the S class as the flagship family Benz!

Thats funny as i see the largest auction house in the usa market (manheim auto auction) with prices on a downward spin. You can buy all the g wagons you want right now, whether on cars.com. manheim ove, autotrader. etc. Anyone paying over msrp now, needs to be educated. The pigs (dealers and flippers) are headed out for slaughter.Hoping all the customers that got clubbed like a baby seal during the covid mess. remember the dealers that clubbed them.here are 4 screen shots of manheim sold cars from recent, starting with 2019 g63 to 2022 g63. and you decide if a g wagon is still like finding a stainless rolex. haha

LOL, of course the average price is decreasing because the average 2019 G63 is now 4 years old with 30,000 miles and still fetching above MSRP in auction! I would hardly consider that a downward spin! As I said, inventory is tighter than ever, less than 700 (2109-2023) G63s (new and used) available nationwide if you exclude the Squareds, that's about 10-12 cars per state! Lowest number I have ever seen since the 2019 was introduced and that's despite almost all of the production slated for Russia diverted to the USA since last year! There is a lot of demand for that car! You are a perfect example looking to buy one as soon as you can!

As an aside, if you want the car and don't need the money, why not spend it on something you'd enjoy? Unless you get greater enjoyment by agonizing over a question of whether you can buy it cheaper tomorrow...
Thoughts?

I assume you must be the clubber of the seals. I want one, but i will wait for the prices to keep dropping. It will just be a matter of time. I am in the car business and i see the sudden halt of people spending money.I am also into the rolex sales, pinball machine sales, etc. There has been a sudden decline of people throwing stupid money at must have now items.Be as it will . I am fortunate enough to not need money, and prefer someone else to take the bath. I bought a 19 mclaren 600lt back in july of 21 for 270,000. sold it i year later and only lost 20g. The same car now is 205-220. Gotta know when to fold your cards. i was told the mclaren dealer has close to a billion dollars worth of new and used inventory stuffed in there warehouse and only bring out 1 or 2 of the models for sale at one time as to make the buyer think he must act now or lose the chance to own that particular model. Its pretty simple, hold back inventory to drive the market up. People will always want what they cant have or get. If you go to the mercedes dealer and they have 12 g wagons in every color to choose from , you will not be in the rush to make the purchase. If you go to the dealer and they only have 1 ugly brown g wagon, and you want a g. Your buying the ugly brown one, and paying over because they told you......... its the hottest thing since sliced bread and they are impossible to get ! Covid has changed the way a lot of businesses learned to artificially hold back product to raise prices.

Looks like things are trending downward, and even G's are going to see that trend to some extent. Just look at the next month's projections in all of those averages. Granted, that happens due to mileage and time, but we are going to see some decline. I'm not saying the bottom is falling out, but certainly pretty far off where we were a year or more ago. Interesting to see the '22s are still going pretty strong over sticker even at auction. The '21s seem to be holding sticker or slightly more depending on color if even if miles are up there a bit.

Even at its highest point, the ADM for the G550/G63 is going to look like mere childsplay once the EQG arrives. I'd guess it will initially go for $500k, for some time, and likely not come down to whatever its MSRP may be ($350k?, who knows!) for a decade+, until MB can eventually bring EQS production in line with demand. Just my 2 cents of course, so pls, no flames.
Hopefully, my speculation is wrong, as I definitely plan to buy an EQG, when (and if) it hits the $325k mark, which may be never. In the meantime, I plan to make do with the Cybertruck. I'm nearly at the top of the wait list, but I don't expect to see it in my driveway for anotehr 3 to 5 years.

My bet is many G class buyers won’t be interested in an electric version for some time. It goes against what a G is. Sure there will be initial demand as there is for any new vehicle but I think it will fade. I also don’t think MSRP will be over $200K. Just a guess but it isn’t like the 4x4.

Not having the V8 is a deal breaker for me, so Im with you. But unfortunately many others wont care and will just want a cool looking box with the 3 pointed star at the front.

Yup, the Hollywood beautiful elites will love being spied by the photogs, as they proudly flaunt their EQG's in downtown Hollywood! Right now, they gots to be careful getting caught driving a thirsty 9 to 11 mpg G-wagon. But, once the EQG arrives on scene, wow, there's no end in sight as to how many of these rides M will sell to the richie-richie Hollywood elites! They can go back to flaunting them once again, which ain't a bad thing for Mercedes!

Clueless.

I guess you live in a cave huh? Its literally the most rapped about model and always used to flex on insta....The EQG will be no different, in fact like others have said here it will probably cost considerably more than a G63 so it most definitely will be used to flex.
Clueless.

I would agree for enthusiasts like us on this forum. But you're underestimating this car's cool factor and its position as a status symbol. There will be no shortage of Beverly Hills wine/plastic/soccer moms, rappers, athletes and celebrities etc. that will jump at the opportunity to be the first on the block to flex the EQG on their driveway.

the 4 exhausts tips, hand built engine which is signed… these are eliminated… G loses its soul.
btw, not sure if you noticed, but hybrid and electric models tend to increase the value of remaining gas operated engines (i.e. ferrari) given they become last of their kinds.

But I can also get over myself and realize that not everyone will have this mindset. China (arguably MB's largest or maybe second largest market) will eat this car up and demand will be endless. You're also glancing over the fact that having an electric vehicle that looks like the G will sell like hot cakes given it will be super unique with every other EV looking like a bubble/blob that was formed in the wind tunnel.

I have a 2023 coming at the end of the month and thought it would be easy--trade in the 2022 with 2200 miles at MSRP, save on tax, and move on. However, the selling dealer gave a trade-in offer that was nowhere close to MSRP, so I decided to shop the 2022 around.
After calling multiple dealers, I realize based on the lukewarm responses, that the party's not over yet but it's last dance. You won't lose 20% driving a G off the lot, but you can no longer buy one even at MSRP and expect to break even or make money.
Eventually I was able to get what I thought was an offer good enough to just be done with the process, a couple thousand less than my out the door cost (I bought the 2022 with $1k add-ons and the 2023 is at MSRP).
My advice is if you choose to buy with ADM, make sure either you really won't miss the money or you will keep the car awhile because right now it takes some work to even get MSRP back.
