Did anyone do long road trips on G63?
Hi, I have an new G63 and hoping to do a 2000 mile round trip from CA to AZ and back. Has anyone done it before? Curious about
1. Does the wind noise bother the driver more when the car is being driven for a longer period of time?
2. How is the car comfort in general over a long drive?
Thanks

Hi. I have a 2020 G 63, and I drive it back and forth from Utah to California twice a year (about 750 miles each way). I haven't had any problems with wind noice or any other comfort-related issues. I usually play around with the seat massage on long trips. It takes me a while to figure it out since I only use it twice a year

you'll be pleasantly surprised to know that it's built to do exactly that. after a while the wind noise is not much of a factor and sitting with almost a 90 degree bend at the knees makes for actually a more relaxing posture. I drive long distances often and found it to be less tiring in this one than say an x5m.

Don't forget to factor in the cost of a $3200 windshield every 10,000 miles (32 cents per mile) and $10,000 in brake pads and rotors every 25,000 miles (40 cents per mile) and an additional $1 of depreciation per mile!
All in approx $2 per mile for your road trip in a G63 but very comfortable otherwise in my opinion. My experience in the G is beyond 200 miles it is significantly cheaper to fly business class.

I've driven my G550 on 4 road trips of 800 - 900 r/t miles (each time to a MB dealer for recalls). Wind noise never bothers me, and I don't have to blast the audio system for it to be heard. The G's seats are among the best I've driven in -- better than BMW and Lexus IMO. The G is a bit short on cargo space, and I've often wondered what owners do if they experience a flat tire and discover that the spare cover won't fit over the flat tire because the spare is slightly smaller (at least it is on my G). My fuel economy on my last 900 trip 3 weeks ago was 19.8 mpg -- no complaints about that.

Tail wind is key!! Exceding 70MPH n a G63 will reduce that 15 MPG easily down to 13.5 MPG. (26-29 cents per mile at $4 a Gallon).

I drive the G63 every month from LA to Vegas round trip. Average 11mpg, also average 87-90mph. Pretty comfortable, there is wind noise but you get used to it after the 1st 30 mins.

(a) I can choose my seatmate
(b) I get a combo window and aisle seat
(c) ample legroom with no moron reclining into my lap
(d) no dufus cramming his coffin size duffel into the overhead compressing my carry-on into a small wad
(e) no snarky TSA agent whose latex gloves ensure whatever contaminants were on others' travel documents get passed on to mine
(f) I get to determine and revise my departure time
(g) I get to choose snacks and beveridges
(h) pupper gets to ride for free
(i) an unruly passenger can be easily extinguished with "don't make me stop this car!"
Altogether, easily worth $2/mile!

Thank you all for your input this is great. Exactly what i was looking for. I wasn't aware of the windshield and brakes and rotors thing before so thank you for that as well. Ill report back on how it goes

FYI, I used an independent Mercedes shop (with a good reputation) for my brakes. I needed new brake pads at 32,000 miles (rotors still had life in them), and the cost was $980 for genuine MB parts. BTW, the shop quoted $6,500 for rotors and pads (all genuine MB parts). You should consider an independent shop (with a good reputation) when you need brakes.

The only time I did a long trip was when I picked up my new G63 at the dealer in Munich and drove back to Riga, Latvia where we live. It’s roughly 1700km ~ 1000mi. We did the trip through Chezh and Poland with 4 nights in total. Maximum speed I did was somewhere around 140kmh (since it’s a new car you are not allowed to drive faster than that the first 1000km, technically you could but I don’t do that with my cars).
My honest opinion is that this car is far from ideal for long trips. The wind noise starting from 100kph might be not too crazy in the moment, but in the long term the drone noise is just tiring for your overall well-being. The seating position and the seats overall are far from S class level (understandable, but still). My *** and back hurt pretty much in the evening. One further thing to keep in mind is the height of the car in case you park in an underground parking. In Wrocław we couldn’t fit the car since the garage ceiling height was 1.9m.
The G63 in my opinion is a great car for short city trips and speeds under 110kph (which happens to be the maximum speed limit in Latvia )
The car is quite popular here in Riga (I have counted some 30 cars until now). We also enjoy the height of the trunk as we like put our Cybex stroller there without totally dismantling it.
best wishes,
alex
