Launch OBD Scanner - Temperature display in Celsius

This is a simple one, but actually one of the primary reasons I bought the Launch scanner. Unlike every other German car I've owned (BMW, Porsche, Audi) there is no way to change just the temperature unit from °F to °C (which I prefer). The setting exposed in COMMAND is either all metric or all customary US units. All metric won't work for me since all our roads are signed in MPH and miles. Launch scanner makes this possible:

463.261 - G550
Information and communication
Country_coding
Display Unit_temperature_unit_temp
Set value: "Degree C"

So far, so good. I was expecting to see somewhere in COMMAND a software glitch due to having US units set but also "Degree C" set causing some invalid state, but all my temps are correctly displayed throughout the system in °C. I'll update this thread if I encounter anything weird.

Fully expect this is of limited use to most, but perhaps there is some future poor soul who longs for °C in a US Mercedes-Benz and stumbles upon this in a search.

Hat tip to @streborx whose thread format I've followed for this post. I find it really easily to read and it would be nice to have some consistency as the knowledge is built up here.

Hi Achatgrau,

I am one of those, thank you for feeling our pain. As ridiculous as it may be, MB made it sound like you need to be an engineer to change the
°F to °C in the dashboard.
And, believe me, there is no shortage of 'scientists' out there on the WWW, quick to capitalise on this MB lousy blunder.

QQ: What Launch scanner model and version did you use to change this setting?

Many thanks!

Interesting, didn't know this scanner is capable of doing this.

I’m using a LAUNCH Creader Elite V2.0:
Amazon Amazon

Good luck! I’ve still haven’t encountered anything weird/unexpected with this change.

I pointed this out in another thread, but it’s probably worth mentioning again. The LAUNCH reader uploads your scans to their servers with no way to opt-out or delete. After running the experiment I outlined in the linked thread, I’ve left mine permanently off WiFi:

It does sound like MB requires you to have an engineering degree to change to Celsius

It isn't like the Chinese to garner some private data without permission, not at all ;D
Thanks for the sound advice - will do the same. Turn off WIFI data and, if needed, perform a reset before reconnecting for updates

I’d be most grateful if you could give me a step by step guide on how to do it. I’ve never used an OBD scanner before and I’m a little apprehensive about it. I’m getting the Launch Creader Elite v.2 tomorrow. TIA.
