A bunch of unspoken-for 2025 G550s?

I was told by my local dealer they have on the ground and available a '25 G550 that was sent to them by Mercedes. I did a quick search on Autotrader and it looks like there are 366 others as of this writing. I wonder if they are all the same thing.

Come on, you think the executives at MB are idiots who would make a bunch of six cylinder G wagens when everyone is clamoring for G63 V8s and electric Gs?

Clearly the problem here is we haven't raised tariffs enough on Chinese cars!

When I was at my dealer last month they had a bunch of G550 build slots that were unclaimed.

That’s a launch vehicle that Mercedes sent to each dealership. They weren’t able to spec out the launch vehicle. I personally wouldn’t want a 6 cylinder G Wagon or electric G Wagon. The electric G only has a 240 mile range and plays fake engine sounds.

I don't mind the 6 cylinder but would never want an electric.

I think I'd be okay with the 6 cylinder as well as. 440 HP is ample enough. Patience is key here. These might sit for a while, msrp might become the norm and discounts might be seen. Wait it out.

part of the problem is most dealerships are charging extremely high ADMs on the 2025's. I've contacted dealers in TX, NY, TN, FL, OH, MS, AL and GA. Most ADMs have been around $10K, but the highest was in TX with $30K. Only one dealer in OH offered MSRP as long as a trade in is involved. Right now I have the same 550 on order across 3 different dealerships.... first one to get it delivered wins! 🤣😂😂

Most of the 550's that are hitting dealerships seem to all have the same specs... either Black with Red Pepper interior or Olive green with macchiato beige interior. I've seen a view china blues and a few silvers. All of the builds at dealerships are lack luster.

My problem is most insurance companies have a $150K limit so of course the geniuses at MB priced the base model it at $159K. Doh! Anywho, several available at the dealer who services my EQE 500 SUV, as long as you like black, white, and grey with the blah or meh colored interior. Boring!

The low range is exactly why the engineering team says there is no official towing range for it: you’re not supposed to tow anything because it kills the already limited range. The G-ROAR Sound Experience is nott actually an engine sound, but a sound/tone created entirely in a studio designed to evoke the V8, without actually sampling the engine sound directly. I also find the engineering aspects of the 4-motor setup impressive, but the 580e with EQ Technology would still be my last pick (W465 > N465).

The gas mileage of the six banger is so bad I don't understand why anyone would buy it, except maybe to save some money but nobody buys a G to save money so... electric makes a lot of sense for a vehicle with the aerodynamics of a brick, IMHO. And as for towing that really depends on the slope and how good the regen is. You might actually GAIN range towing downhill.

According to the EPA, the W465 G 550 now gets better City mileage (17) than the 2018 G 550 Highway mileage (14) and 2024 G 550 Highway mileage (16), so I consider that somewhat of an improvement, if any. Fuel economy figures thought impossible on a G-Class (save for very conservative down-mountain highway drives) just seven years ago are now easily achievable around town.

I think they’ve raised the fuel mileage for the G 63 as well. I think I read they’re the same as the G 550 for 25. 13 mpg city, 16 highway mpg highway for 24. I’ve never seen 16 mpg on the highway in my 21 or 24.

I prefer infinity miles per gallon from an electric. There's plenty of range for driving around town and hours of off-road fun. It's the wrong vehicle for highway driving anyways, especially when equipped with all-terrain tires.

There’s only a 240 mile range in the electric G. Enough for around town, but not enough for highway use.

Now, 3 days after I created this thread, there are even more listed for sale. i am guessing that "scarcity" and "G550" will not be used in the same sentence for the 2025+

Gas mileage and G Class in the same sentence. LOL. Where you been? As if anyone cares THAT much.

The launch vehicles are starting to arrive at the dealerships.

This is all kind of disappointing. The G is supposed to be a limited supply vehicle with a wait list, not with newly refreshed models sitting on lots unsold.

I still think it will be and is.... Everyone here is either placing an order or has placed and order for a vehicle with our own personal specs. All of these G's showing up to dealerships are all "cookie cutter". I think MB was a bit tone deaf with the launch vehicles as they are all basic. Probably targeting the population of folks that just have to be the "first" to have it. Meanwhile, real G enthusiasts with fully speced out Gs are patiently waiting for their allocation dates to hit.

What do you expect, they switched from a V8 in the G 550 to a 6 cylinder. I have a G 63 ordered.

We already saw a softening in the market, ADM's down. Used inventory up. 911's too. The G will remain limited supply but the economy is not so strong right now and with interest rates where they are it's totally understandable why these will sell slower than prior. The hot G market could not sustain itself indefinitely.

Even the Rolex market has softened some.

I’ve had 6 Rolex watches, and I was on a waiting list for my current one. I don’t think you can walk into an authorized Rolex dealer and find a new watch without waiting on a list. It also helps that I know the owner and have done business with him for years. Same with the Mercedes dealership.

6 Rolex watches...amazing.

I'm a collector and fully understand the watch market. I didn't say you can walk in and find any watch, just that the market is softening, it's not anything like it was. My AD regularly has pieces available for sale, while they are not the hot models it's much better than it was. PM's are certainly much easier to source due to the higher price point. I'm also seeing people getting lucky on first visits.

Look at the grey prices, that's all you really need to see to understand the market has softened. Flippers have been thinned out, more inventory for the end user at the retail level.

Yes, one AD wanted me to come in wearing my watch, had me take it off, took it in the back, came out with a ridiculously low offer. They wouldn’t put me on a list until I physically came in wearing my watch. Another AD put me on a list, but said, it would be 4-6 years. I had my watch serviced at an AD that I had been doing business with for over 20 years and got my watch in 9 months. I was doing business with another AD before that, but the owner retired and I heard, they lost Rolex. It’s who you build a relationship with if you want a new in demand Rolex. I had purchased a watch from them and had it serviced twice. He came through with the watch I wanted. They don’t receive the watches they used to several years ago.

So it's about relationships, interesting. I'll work on that.

Anywho, I'm keeping what I have (I don't flip or trade) but I've stopped collecting Rolex and have moved on to Patek. It got to a point that my AD would ask me what I was looking for (regarding Rolex) and I simply said no thank you. Sell it to someone else that really wants it and is waiting, no need to be greedy. It means more to them than it means to me. Also the hype turned me off. I much more prefer the understated elegance of PP. Also, there are so many other great brands out there to explore.
