G63 windshield wipers sticking after protective film

I’ve had this issue since I picked up the truck. MB put a windshield protective film on to protect against rock chips but wipers stick and skip badly during light/medium rain. It’s incredibly annoying so I am looking for a resolution.

I took the car into MB and they wiped the windshield with some type of white powder and handed the car back to me. Didn’t do anything at all. The company who put the film on said I may need new wipers which seems hard to believe since the truck has 1500 miles on it.

Anyone have a solution here? It seems like the film is causing increased friction and the wipers stick and then judder across the screen.

Hi. There's a thread on this topic here:
Link

dcarrer0 had this problem, and he found that replacing the wipers with some very good wipers made by "The Windy Company" helped.

The Windy Company - Wipers made easy

support@windywipers.com

16” wipers are too small (per dcarrer0).

17” wipers are perfect.

$39 for a set (driver and passenger-side)

I also had this problem with the protective film on my windshield and the OEM wipers skittering. I purchased a set of the 17" Windy Wipers for my 2024 G 63, and it helped a lot. Still not perfect, but a lot better.

Mine did that for a bit but have settled down now. Question and favour to ask. Have you tried lane keeping cruise control yet? Do you feel like the truck is slowly moving from one side of the lane to the other? If not, could you give it a try? I have this problem and many have suggested it’s the protective window film that’s causing a camera misalignment issue. Thank you!!

I am actually back and forth with The Windy Company now, as they do not list any wipers for the 2025 models, which I believe are the same as 2019+. I sent a bunch of photos yesterday to confirm the mounting connection and sizes. Their most current G Wagon listed on their website states 16" for front and 12" for the rear. They just started selling rear wipers in the set in the past couple weeks. I measured and can confirm, as in the other thread, the front are actually 17". This post is timely as I just sent service at Windy Company an e-mail with photos and such and hope to order a set soon. I have these wipers on my 2021 Toyota Land Cruiser and they are AMAZING. I just ordered another set for that vehicle to get the rear wiper.

I will keep everyone posted.

They are usually slow with site update. Earlier they only had 16” showing for 23. That they fixed after I had my back and forth with them. 25 should be same design and size.
i can for sure see the annoying rattling has disappeared since install

I grabbed some Rain-X Longitude Wiper Blades off amazon and they work amazing with windshield protection film. No chatter or sticking whatsoever.

Hi there... I just talked to the Windy City support team and they were able to update for the 2025 model at the following link:

https://windywipers.com/products/202...dshield-wipers

It appears to have the 17" for the driver and passenger front wipers (which is correct based on the previous thread) and 12" for the rear. I am going to order them now and I will report back if everything works as planned.

I have tried a lot of different things. I have the Clearplex protection and don't get chatter at all but the wipers do squeak as the go across the windshield. Only time it does not is if it is raining cats and dogs. I switched to the Windy wipers and they didn't improve it at all. I put on Rain-X and it didn't improve it and I have also applied the Adams Graphene windshield coating and it also didn't do anything. So now when it is raining I just play the radio instead of listening to the exhaust.

I would try coating it with a car and glass friendly sealant. I just did Xpel, first day got a huge wiper scratch lol, but they dont chatter. I did have it ceramic coated and then I added a layer of car/glass sealant "Rejex" on top. However, im using Xpel so maybe that might make a difference and my wipers are brand new as I just bought the car.

The film is likely causing the wipers to stick and skip due to increased friction. Even with low mileage, the factory wipers may not be compatible with the film’s surface. I recommend trying silicone or premium rubber blades designed for coated windshields. Also, applying a water-repellent treatment like Rain-X (if safe for the film) can improve glide. If that doesn’t help, have the film and windshield professionally cleaned with products made for protective films. If issues persist, consider discussing a higher-quality film or reinstalling it with the installer.

What size and which one did you get if you don't mind me asking. Windy City's blade not working for me at all. Skipping like crazy.

My 2023 did this with a clearplex film. It eventually settled out. I've had juddering on a 2024 but the other cars without film were fine, including my 2021 with exoshield.

This is the resolution. *I have Xpel now. Clearplex only lasted 2yrs.

Anyone know what type of wiper the 2025 G63 takes? I think it's different from previous years. It's 17 inch instead of 16 and the lock system is different. I literally tried Trico, Rain X with no luck. Either with the adapter or lack thereof. The adapter that came with the Trico don't fit. Rain X don't provide adapters anymore apparently.

Only thing that works that I found is OEM and Windy City. Windy City has a lot a of chatter and stuttering with XPEL. So annoying.

If you get skipping, try cleaning the blades themselves and coating the blades themselves with a ceramic coating. I found that to help a lot.
