I would either go to my local dealership or email/call Mercedes USA and request a brochure. I had them send me a G-Class brochure (even though I can't really afford one right now) and the amount of information and the pictures are great. Some guy a couple blocks from my house has a Black G55, and a Black SL55, and some sports car under a tarp I haven't been able to figure out yet... It looks really nice in black with the chrome exhaust on the sides and the rear chrome brush guards over the rear taillights. Anyway, good luck with the search

thanks! my buddys girlfriend just got a silver 05' and i went for a ride in the thing and just loved it, its built like a tank but still very quick! i went and looked at a black one at mercedes benz of lindon here in utah but passed because the car had some very noticable swirl marks.....i want to find one thats perfect
ps....i have to say there is one dissapointment with the silver one she just bought..the paint under the rear tail gate is already rusting!!! it has 470 miles on it!! shes pissed... i hope MB makes it better

I wouldn't buy the G55 unless it was at substantial loss to the person selling it. I've driven both and after choosing the Porsche I have to say the Cayenne Turbo is king! Once those turbo's kick in it seems to make it's own gravity propelling you forward. And the ride height is fully adjustable, the suspension is set up so you can select from three different ride types comfort, normal and sport. The G55 maybe a little faster with it's blown engine in the straights but that’s about the only thing. The ride is so rough even if there isn't a hint of wiggle in that chassis. I don’t mean to bash the G55 it looks OK for a car that was designed in 1979!!!!

thanks amil! ill give you a call shortly! on that note does anyone have any pics of a g55 in metallic black? ///amg55, i have also looked at the cayenne turbo...matter of fact i had money down on a biege with cashmire color interior but i changed my mind after in the same day on the same road i saw two women both drive cayenne turbos pass! i have seen so many in my area i roll my eyes when they pass now..on the other hand i feel the g55 is much more exclusive and i know of only 1 other in my area...i also like the weight of the AMG over the porsche...when i open the doors i like the fact that it takes effort to do so!plus the 3 locking differentials cant be beat! i live in utah right against the mountains and when it snows, it snows! its nice to know i can climb up the side of a building with this thing if needed

...........Actually, the G55K is faster than the Porsche. It was recently tested at 4.7 secs 0-60. There is not even a question that the G55K out accelerates the Porsche. This thing is incredible fast even when compared to a porsche 911. But you are right about the fact that the G55's ride quality is poor. This is easily solved by swapping the shocks to those of the G500. Interestingly, the appeal the G55 has to many that buy it is that it has chasis that has survived the test of time and the test of actual military use. I doubt if any country will order the Cayenne Turbo for its army to use. This is part of the appeal of the G55 and if you find yourself prefering the Porsche, then you made the right choice....the G55 will not appeal to you.

I heard that MBUSA going to stop selling G-class. They are going to sell a special edition G-class, both G 500 and G 55, for the last productions of G class in the US. Can somebody verify this news I heard.

Here you go ! And YES MBZ will no longer build the Gelaendewagen chassis and the new one is going to look like a toyota sequia, just my .03 cents (inflation you know)
I too drove a Cayenne Turbo for a week before buying the KING and was impressed but not for me, besides 99% of the ones I see on the road are driven by women.

Nothing wrong with the ladies driving it though
! But it just wasnt an ultimate SUV in my book. BTW the pics of mine are when I just bought it since then I have put 30mm spacers on all four corners and it looks even more "meaner" than before and puts the wheels/tires right up to the edge of the wheel arch extensions without looking obtrusive whatsoever, handling has improved drastically in the curves, still a flying brick but handles better nonetheless !

The 2005 model has 120 HP more than the 2004 model (Kompressor vs. standard engine), that's why his desire to get a 2005. My local dealer has sold all G55's they were allotted this year and won't take orders for any more.
