As crazy as it sounds, dealers have been known to be misinformed even with charts. Living in South Florida, I have heard all the rumors before and I seriously doubt they would throw the new motor in a tried and true combination like the G55.
With that said, I think you'd be happier with a designo Graphite Gwag... the color is the best made IMO.

EU regulations are the reason for the 55K being discontinued in the future, as for the G63 time will tell.

The main reason for the 55K engines being discontinued is because of pedestrian safety regs. Considering the size and dimensions of the G-Wagen, it may be possible that it is installed in such a fashion as to not need replacing with an engine that sits lower.

If MB-AMG wishes to have a new G out by next year that will outperform the current G55, then they should consider making a G65 V12. Audi has that incredible V12 diesel coming out in the Q7, so MB needs to be prepared.

You can already order a G65 if you so desire, a few have been built thus far.

All 2007 G-Class models which will be imported to the US will have a new center console from the current generation C-Class including updated DVD navigation. European & Asian G-Class models built from approx March onwards will also have the same. Some pics have been posted elsewhere but I can't find them right now. The 2008 will also likely have the rest of the dash including gauges updated as well. I think the front seats on the 2007.5 model have also been slightly improved.

Thanks to kadege on another benz forum we have these pics of further changes coming to the 2007.5 G-Class (March production onwards) including updated rear lights and new gauges (pics form a G320 CDI, G500 and G55 will have slightly different trim):
