G63 is coming next year....

........interesting although not completely suprising since the AMGV8K is to be phased out completely. On such a heavy car as the G-wagon, I wonder how the acceleration will compare to that of the G55 which has prven itself quite well.

I doubt it will affect the G55 prices considerably and frankly I am a bigger fan of the 55K motor than the 6.2NA, the torque of the 55K makes it a better choice IMO in the G than the 6.2.

to be honest the torque difference in the G55 over the G63 has got to be even more apparent in the G-class vs ... the E or CLS.

G63
I wonder if MB and AMG have any tricks up their sleeves like the debut of the 6.3 twin turbo engine in the upcoming G63. Wouldn't that be nice; a 650 HP Geleandewagen?

Yeah I doubt it too, they're saving the turbo for the S/CL facelift in 2010 or so also to be timed exactly with a new SL I guess like before. I just don't see why they can't keep the SC 5.5L V8 in the SL and G, they fit perfectly. A non-turbo SL63 and G63 are going to be slower than the old 55 versions I think.

very odd because not two weeks ago, an AMG program director told me face-to-face in germany at hockenheim that there are NO plans to replace the 55k in the AMG-G precisely because torque was the priority that the 63 engine could not deliver. he said nothing about whether the 500 would become a 550.

Just a note, when I was at the dealer I was shown the 2007 MB timeline by my sales rep and it clearly showed the G63 replacing the G55.
I find it difficult to grasp that an AMG director wouldn't be aware of this considering it must have been known months before the dealers were informed.
If you don't believe me call your local AMG rep or simply ask Vadim, he posts regularly on the E55 forum and is a AMG consultant for MB in Southern California.

who knows what is odd, or usual and customary, in such a large group of companies. all i know is what i was told while my GF and i were in his E55 talking about -- what else -- cars.
in fact, i asked and was given answers -- after he made calls in our presence -- about the AMG SL timeline, in addition to details about other models.
i've been having certain engine problems in my SL65. between him and the techs, who talked amongst themselves and others by phone -- again, in my presence -- they produced presumptive diagnoses and are ready to work with particular US dealers to resolve them.
so, why and how i got a 55k positive answer in affalterbach and at hockenheim, and you got a 63 answer here, i cannot imagine. but we're sure to find out soon enough.

G500/g55 07 Brochure
I thought I would pick up a 05 G55, for now, and sell it later. In Canada, we dont get the 07's till summer, and only if we order now.
What does everyone think about designo mocha with the caramel (sand) interior??
I found a designo graphite, 05 , or a grand edition pewter one. which I thought I would hold on to until the 07 comes in. Any comments on what colour would be better on the G. I have not seen either in person, and wont really be able to. Here are the pics of the two.
Can e mail the 07 brochure if anyone wants it in PDF. Cant seem to upload it.

Well I guess he wasn't informed by MB as of that time, I will get the official release from my local dealer and post it here ASAP.

20+ to list......
While the new 63s are great engines, but I wouldn't bother getting a G63, car is too heavy for that engine, but if it's 63TT, then it's a different story.

a few...
As crazy as it sounds, dealers have been known to be misinformed even with charts. Living in South Florida, I have heard all the rumors before and I seriously doubt they would throw the new motor in a tried and true combination like the G55.
With that said, I think you'd be happier with a designo Graphite Gwag... the color is the best made IMO.
