backup camera...
does anyone know whether the MY2007 Gs were prewired for the MY2007.5 and MY2008 backup camera?
i've found an MY2007 G55 at an MB dealer, where the service manager claims to be able to install and connect the genuine MB backup camera with little fuss.
please let me know your thoughts.

i was told that we (MY2007 owners) could NOT retroactively have the reversing camera fitted.

apparently, both OEM and aftermarket equipment CAN be retrofitted. and furthermore, the aftermarket equipment apparently has been approved by MB.
i've just e-mailed the dealership to inquire about warranty/guarantee and servicing when in a region other than that where it would be purchased.
when i have it all in writing, i'll gladly confirm same here.

retrofit backup farce?
so, on thursday i anticipated receipt of detailed info on the backup camera, including warranty/guarantee, price and service options. still hasn't arrived.
what did arrive was e-mail suggesting i send a refundable deposit to reserve the G because there was other interest in it due to the color (black) and price (~90k). of course, the preceding phone call to me had suggested a nice discount off the asking price to compensate for the lack of equipment i'd wanted. but, whatever...
considering the most recent Gs usually are found in silver and, surprise! black, i don't see the big deal about the color. and the price was about what anybody should expect. so, i replied that it would serve nobody for me to reserve that G without knowing what i'd actually pay for it, and that i'd understand if they had to sell it because i was certain another one would become available.
so far, no reply. i hope they've sold it.
for now, i'm finding it difficult to justify buying new vehicles and walking away from 15% of the purchase price -- meaning more than 10k -- when there are extremely low mileage one year old vehicles popping up.
and it sure would be nice if a salesperson would actually invest a few minutes to make a sale instead of expecting someone who's purchased several MBs just since 2000 -- sort of like me -- to just say yes. fortunately, i'm very patient about such purchases. LOL.
i suspect that a couple of dealers eventually will call to ask whether i'd like to acquire one or two new vehicles at a good discount because things just ain't so great out there in the retail world.
